Happy Saturday!
As mentioned yesterday, I wasn't excited to get up to come to work this morning. But, here I am.
Good luck to all the suckers like me that are working on the weekend.
Picked up Batman: Long Hallowe'en the other day for a re-read. The art isn't as sharp as the Green Arrow books that I read last week, but the story is pretty tight.
Large win for the Blue Jays last night against Zack Grienke and the KC Royals. Grienke had been on a roll, he hadn't given up a home run yet this season until Lyle Overbay went deep against him. He was bidding for his 9th win of the season (which Roy Halladay already has) and he hadn't been knocked around in any kind of ugly fashion. The bats came alive last night and the end result was a 9-3 win.
Side note: The Jays did something last night that they weren't able to do 20 years ago, win. 20 years ago yesterday, the "mistake by the lake" opened with a loss against the then American League East, Milwaukee Brewers. Last night members of that years team were at the park to celebrate. Old dudes in uniform included: Tom Henke, Duane Ward, Tony Fernandez, Kelly Gruber and current Sportsnet colour guy Rance Mulliniks. Good to see the guys that I grew up watching wearing that old home white jersey.
I was talking to a friend here at work and he's totally in board with the Kobe Bryant nickname change to Doomsday. I think that later today I'm going to have to search the internet for basketball writers that I can send the idea to. If Kobe goes off for 40 again tonight it will be hard to resist. I know it makes me a geek, but it joins 2 of my geeky hobbies and it excites me. Don't judge me.
Last night we had a dinner of McDonalds Triple Thick Milkshakes and Burger King Whoppers. Not the healthiest or most glamorous dinner that we've ever had. Even this week, but it hit the spot.
Yesterday on Ellen (again, don't judge me) Kellie Pickler was the musical guest and sat down for a chat and was adorable. I lurve her a little and now really kinda wish that she and Taylor Swift were coming to Toronto on their tour this summer. Sad faces.
A rather important hockey game is scheduled for this evening in Detroit, if you haven’t been following things I’ll forgive you, but you should start now. This series is getting interesting. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have both reached the 30 point plateau in the play-offs marking the first time since 1994 that teammates have scored that prolifically. The winner of tonight’s game needs only to win one more game to claim the cup. And while Detroit is at home and plays well, Pittsburgh has come to life and looks confident. I suppose tonight will show us what we need to see.
Have a great weekend everyone. Those of you with plans, be safe and enjoy. Those of you working, try not to count down minute by minute. And those of you that have church and such, say a quick one for me, thank you.
Like wham!
