Last day of February Morning Musings

Good morning boys and girls and welcome to your Saturday.

The sun is shining and it’s a brisk -26 degrees with the wind chill factored in.

Had yesterday off, didn’t do a whole lot. I did some secret baking though. I can taste the chocolaty goodness now and I haven’t even tried any of it yet.

In the world outside of my apartment there was a bunch going on though as far as I can gather.

-Tiger Woods lost in Round 2 of the World Match Play Championship ending his come back week early.

-Japanese retailers have pulled the BlackBerry Bold from shelves after battery overheating issues.

-The Toronto Blue Jays won their 2nd game in a row at Spring Training giving them a 2-1 record so far.

-Rumour is that a Canadian dude named James Preston Rogers from Brampton, ON is in the running to play the title character in Kenneth Branagh’s THOR! I have no idea who this guy is, but I am excited by Thor news.

-We’re officially only a week away from The Watchmen!

-President Obama says all American combat troops will be out of Iraq by August 31, 2010

-President Obama watched his hometown Chicago Bulls get blown out by the Washington Wizards Friday night.

-Only 4 more sleeps until NHL Trade Deadline Day on every Canadian Sports Network.

-I watched Justice League the Series DVD yesterday, good times. No Green Arrow though, wtf?

-Reports say Tom Brady has married gf Gisele Bundchen. Good for them. Maybe they’ll make cute babies like he did with Bridget Moynahan.

-In Toronto a bunch of people have been shot lately.

-Police have made an arrest in the TTC bus shooting from a few days ago.

In all reality I have no idea what’s going on. I kind of shut everything out yesterday. And to be honest, it was nice. I Twittered, Facebooked and played some video games. I was going to read some Green Arrow, but I never got around to it.

I’ve been sitting here for over an hour watching sports highlights at work and surfing numerous websites looking for something good to write. I’m sorry because I don’t think that I did. My bad.

I hope that you kiddies enjoy your weekends. Especially those of you with plans.

Thursday Morning Musings, Go Jays Go

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I hope that yesterday treated you well.

Lots of things going on in the world these days that interest me, I have no idea if they would interest you, but we can see.

I watched a Survivorman episode last night that I’d never seen before. Mr. Les Stroud was on Baffin Island, above the Arctic Circle in remote northern Canada. He was left with a busted up old snowmobile (kinda like the ones that I used to have when I was a kid) some raw seal meat, some seal blubber and a rifle for protection against Polar Bears. Dude built shelters using the windshield of the machine, slept in a cave of an iceberg, and lugged a bunch of camera equipment around so that I could watch it all on TV months and months later. I also think that it’s time that I admit that I have a slight crush on this guy. It’s a man-crush. Don’t get all excited people, nothing sexual. Just want him to be my dude is all.

Mr. Stroud also led me to my Twitter last night. I was in the middle of posing random questions on my feed and seeing what answers I could get from my friends. Question 3 was: Who would I rather be, Top Chef or Survivorman? The first answer through was the winner before I went to question 4. And that answer was, Survivorman due to his coolness.

Twitter question 3 was also initiated because last night was the season finale of Top Chef season 5. I will not divulge the winner as it is a finale and if you missed it and want to know who won there are better places that you can go to find it. I will tell you that there was Alligator, Crab, and all sorts of good stuff to eat. It made me a little hungry as it always does.

Yesterday was also a landmark day in my calendar year as the Toronto Blue Jays opened their pre-season schedule against the New York Yankees. The fact that we lost doesn’t bother me too much, it’s the little things that matter in spring training not the score board. I wasn’t bothered either that Alex Rodriguez went very deep to left centre field for his first homerun of the spring in the 4th inning. I was a little upset that I couldn’t watch or listen to the game, but again, it’s only February.

Twitter question number 5 was posted this morning asks, what actor would you like to see playing which Super Hero? My answer is Eric Dane as the Green Arrow… see for yourself.

As for other silly, random, not world changing or saving stuff… there’s a ton of it. I will not be going back to perezhilton.com today, there’s no reason to. I don’t enjoy it. It makes me feel a little dirty on the inside. That’s just me though, as there are about a billion people a day that hit that guy’s website.

I’m also happy to tell you that I’ll be off tomorrow, so if I write it will be short, sweet and mobile.

That’s all for today. Be well friends.

Wednesday Mornings Musings - Maybe I'll Audition for BNL Edition

Good morning ppl.

It’s Wednesday, Tiger Woods is on the TV talking about being happy to be back on the PGA tour and I’m at work.

Last night was an entertainment wash really. I was entertained by the Toronto Raptors vs. Minnesota Timberwolves game, but I would never bet on that this year. Criminal Minds was on and it was pretty ok. Nicholas Brendan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame made his first appearance on the show and is said to be the new love interest of Penelope Garcia. And, just when you thought it couldn’t get any more amazing, he’s a computer nerd. Good times. I guess it also answers the question, what ever happened to him anyway.

In, Canada got made fun of news: Jon Stewart was back from a week of re-runs and talked about President Obama’s trip to Ottawa last week. Hey, at least we’re relevant.

In OMG Canadiana news: Steven Page has left the Barenaked Ladies. Remember, that whole cocaine thing? Apparently that had nothing to do with this. He says good luck, he says he’s gonna do solo stuff and maybe even do some theatre. And he promised the cops in NY State that he’d stay out of trouble. The rest of the band will push on with studio time booked for April and a tour this fall. Hey, it could be worse, he could have been left in Tokyo like JD Fortune. Perez Hilton also has his take on things, link is in the section.

In, just for you news: Michael Cera has signed on for an Arrested Development movie. He’d been the last member of the cast holding out. I’m not saying that I’ll go to the movie, but somebody will, maybe.

Also, and this is big! We are only 1 year away from Spider-man on Broadway. “Spider-man, Turn Off The Dark” will debut with music by Bono and The Edge of U2. No casting was announced, but even still this is pretty cool comic book news.

And in weiner news: Maple Leaf says be careful, but don’t worry. CP24 has all the info and the article. Listeria is again the issue. Maple Leaf is saying that this was human error after the hot dogs had been put in quarantine but were released and shipped accidently. It’s another black eye on Maple Leaf, that’s two, they don’t have any eyes left. This isn’t good for them. When a million companies are trying not to go bankrupt, Maple Leaf is just screwing up a successful business.

Big ups to http://www.hotpinkgeek.com/, no reason, just because.

I think that’s all for today if I think of anything I’ll let you know.

I'm Back, Morning Musings

Good morning folks. Sorry that I’ve been away for a while. I was on a little sabbatical, or mini-vaca, what ever you want to call it.

Lots happened over the weekend. The much anticipated Hockey Day in Canada went down on Saturday. With Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary winning the all Canadian match-ups. Vancouver and Calgary needed shoot-outs to get their 2 points which made things a little more exciting if nothing else.

In random other news type stuff, TMZ.com is reporting that it paid $62,500 for the pictures of a battered Rihanna after her incident with Chris Brown the night before the Grammys. I just took a look at the picture and it’s tasteless and awful, so I will not be linking to it today. Feel free to go take a look yourself if you’d like.

The Oscars were fantastic and I was very impressed with Hugh Jackman and the song and dance routines. Slumdog Millionaire was a fantastic story as a winner. Sean Penn was political (maybe overly) with his “you commie, homo loving son of a guns” comment. I do agree with him that Prop 8 is ridiculous and I hope that someday we will see equal rights in all states and provinces. Fingers crossed.

I also came into a few new Green Arrow comics this weekend. Yay! They are fantastic. I’ve also decided that if I ever get to be in the crowd for a Kevin Smith Q&A I’m going to ask why the Green Arrow doesn’t get any love. I get that he doesn’t have super powers, he’s not an alien, he’s a little brash, overly sexual, and he was dead for a while. But I like him.

The countdown is now on for Watchmen. Movie opens March 6th, today is February 24th. 11 more sleeps until opening night. And that does not take into account the fact that somewhere there will be midnight screenings which would bring the number of sleeps down to 10. Get ready people, it’s going to be huge!

United States President Obama will be addressing Congress tonight live at 9pm on CNN. CNN.com reports that he will lay out a “sober assessment, hopeful future”. One big rumour coming out of all the government talk and bail-outs and auto industry is that General Motors and Chrysler will be forced into a merger. Is it good? Is it bad? I don’t know. I know I’m not qualified to figure out what they should do.

Heroes was good last night. It was a little dry, so I won’t get into review details. But there was story that I was able to follow, and that has been missing from this season a little. Good job NBC.

That’s all for this morning my friends. Get back to work.

Sorry, I Slept in this Morning Musings

TGIF everybody. I hope that y'all have exciting weekend plans. As I've previously mentioned tomorrow is Hockey Day in Canada. So naturally that will be my big excitement.

I happen to know for a fact that at least one bar will be open at 11:30am and CBC coverage starts at noon. Sounds pretty perfect to me people. Might want to make sure that you call ahead depending on your neighbourhood.

I'm coming to you from my mobile today so there won't be any linkage. It also means that I haven't been surfing for random bits of information.

I'm watching Wanted right now. I was warned it was terrible, but I figure since I bought it I should probably watch it anyway. We'll see if it's a fun way to spend a couple hours.

I have an urge to snap some random photos. Check the Flickr link for them later.

Watchmen comes out in 2 weeks. 2 weeks from today. 14 days. I'm a little excited. I even know a guy casing posters at bus stops. No names to be revealed of course.

I finished reading DC's Infinite Crisis yesterday so that's one thing finished that I started. Next I suppose I'll have to start with Batman: Hush.

I also found a set of comics under the bed that I forgot all about. Ball and Chain. I can't remember if they were a loan or a gift. I'll have to look into that.

I haven't had coffee today. I miss it a little. My head misses it too. Note to self, when you're out on your day off, get yourself a coffee.

Time to call it a day folks. Treat each other well. Go Habs Go.

Thursday Morning Musings - Countdown to My Long Weekend Edition

Good morning mes amis. I was all ready to tell you guys that I wasn’t a geek anymore. And then I realized that my proof was going to be that I didn’t have any Zombie news, or TV news from last night, and I wasn’t going to talk about the comic book that I was reading last night. That would have been pretty good proof I think. Except I was going to follow it up with the news that I was already working on the morning crossword puzzle instead of randomly cruising the internet for news and sports and odd happenings. Looks like I’m a geek no matter what I do. Darn it all.

Let’s do a bunch of semi-quick fire things today because it looks like there may be a bunch of things out there in the world.

-President Barack Obama is making his first trip outside of the United States this morning and will land in Ottawa this morning for a 6 hour visit. That’s right I said 6 hours. Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean will meet the President at the airport. Prime Minister Harper will meet with Obama and talk shop. Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff will get a 15 minute meeting to say his piece. There will also be what cp24 is calling a tightly scheduled News Conference.

-Yahoo Entertainment effectively caught my attention this morning when they used Taylor Swift’s picture to get me to click their Brit Awards coverage. But the picture that they used and featured on the home page was actually number 44 of 76. And in the time it took me to hit next 43 times, I grew sick of Duffy altogether. Boo Duffy.

-I have to print a retraction with regard to yesterday’s comments about my friend being in Paris and skipping Hockey Day in Canada. Facebook tells me that he’s coming home today. Sorry bud.

-Montreal Canadiens lost in a shoot-out. Is it bad that I’m almost satisfied with the 1 point gained in the standings?

-On an impulse I went to the Rolling Stone website for the first time in years and was pleased to see that Taylor Swift is on the cover. The reaction to her fame is both supportive and condemning. I was kind of cool to see Hunter S. Thompson’s name mentioned in a thread about her as well. Check it out in today’s links.

-Top Chef was on the Food Network last night. Semi-Finals, Jeff was brought back, but is gone again. Stefan reminds me of a friend when he gets all bitchy. Fabio loses and is gone, sad faces. Carla wins the challenge and will go to the finale along with Hosea and Stefan.

-Watched the Fanboys trailer online last night and kinda really wanna see the movie… but I can’t find it being played anywhere in Toronto. Are you kidding me?!

-It’s cold outside. Enough said.

-I didn’t win the lottery last night. No 39 Million Dollars for me. But on the bright side nobody won, the Saturday jackpot is estimated to be 48 Million Dollars instead. Better get your ticket.

-A huge cache of Ice Age fossils has been discovered in Los Angeles. The findings includeMamoth, Sabre-toothed Tiger, Dire Wolf and Bisons among others. Pretty cool eh.

That’s all for today kids. I have to get back to my crossword.

Wednesday Morning Musings and Big Zombie News

We start the day with geek news. I was called out on my geekdom last night so I was going to go geek free today. But I couldn’t help it after finding this next thing while I was surfing the sports pages.

From the pages of ESPN the Magazine and writer Rick Paulas, I am pleased to pass on this little tidbit of information. “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, a parody of the classic Jane Austen novel by Seth Grahame-Smith that features Elizabeth Bennet and her gentlemen suitor Mr. Darcy fighting a zombie hoard, is close to being optioned even before the actual book hits stores.”

I did some checking myself after stumbling across this info and have found the book for pre-order online. All signs point to an April 15th, 2009 release of the novel. As of now, all of the undead fan boards say that Hollywood studios are currently in a bidding war for the rights to the novel. Keep your eyes peeled folks, this could be fun.

I have to stop now and make an admission. I am currently jealous of two friends. One is in Paris and will be away this weekend instead of watching Hockey Day in Canada with me. The other was in Spain the last I heard. Jerks, both of them.

It’s Wednesday, feels like Tuesday, and really it’s my Thursday because I’m taking Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday off. Did you catch all of that? If you did, good for you.

As I mentioned ever so briefly, Hockey Day in Canada will soon be upon us. I plan on going to a local Sports Bar for at least game 1, Montreal vs. Ottawa and perhaps game 2, Toronto vs. Vancouver (but I doubt it for game 2) Puck drops at 3pm with festivities and coverage starting on CBC at noon EST.

I hope that everyone can find a way to enjoy some good old fashioned Canadiana this weekend.

The only questions left now are what to wear and what to eat and drink. I can’t decide whether I want to dress up a little and be classy or if I want wear my Montreal Canadiens gear and risk getting beaten in a Toronto Sports Bar. As far as the eating and drinking goes, I have a feeling that a sample platter would be a good idea. Maybe some chicken wings will be in order as well. And when it comes to drinks, I have to lean toward draught beer in pitcher form. What other options are there really?

I think that’s it for today peeps. Be careful commuting as The Weather Network says that things could get messy later.

Tuesday Back to Work Musings

Good back to work Tuesday morning everyone.

I hope that all of you that had long weekends enjoyed them as much as I did. Family day itself wasn’t filled with family time, but the weekend had a lot more family time than usual.

I went out yesterday for some early birthday money shopping and ended up quite pleased with myself. I went to The World’s Biggest Bookstore for the first time in my life and left with 3 graphic novels and half of the money left. I also went to the used bookstore next door, but didn’t buy the book that I was going to (Batman/ Superman) because I didn’t want the guy to have to break $100 for an $8 book. And after I left World’s Biggest I didn’t need to go in and buy a 4th book. I ended up going home with Hush volumes 1 and 2 (Batman) and DC’s Infinite Crisis.

So far I have opened Infinite Crisis and started reading. I was quite thrown off by the fact that I have to read the book back cover to front and upside down. I’m still not sure if that’s the way that they had things planned, or if I have an error… but either way the story is pretty alright. I’ve never really delved into the alternate planets and universes world of comics, but this time the whole story is based on the Multiverse. So I guess I have no choice.

I also did my regular Monday night TV watching starting early this week at 5:30 with The Batman and then Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy (I did indeed get the correct answer/ question for Final Jeopardy), Las Vegas (on Mystery TV) and then House and Heroes. That took me to 10 o’clock where I had an hour before Chuck started on my NBC Seattle feed (ch. 151) I used the time to have a bowl of cereal and read some more Infinite Crisis.

Chuck was probably the highlight of the night for me. It’s such a fantastic show. I love how smart and funny it is. And it also has the right mix of attractive and regular looking characters to make it pleasing to the eye, but not soap opera unrealistic. Bonus: Autism Activist/ Mommy – Jenny McCarthy guest starred as a bad guy as did squeaky voiced, former Conan sidekick – Andy Richter.

I’m starting to get discouraged with Heroes as it seems only the last 15 minutes is any good. But it’s so good at drawing me in that I don’t want it to end at the end of the hour. Also, I can’t watch only the last 15 minutes because I’ll be totally lost for the next episode. It’s a catch 22, and I’m definitely caught.

Tonight I have no idea what I’m going to watch. I still haven’t watched Wanted (picked it up when I got JLA: New Frontier) so that may end up being the plan.

It’s a short work week, and even shorter for me (not bragging, just saying) so I hope that you all enjoy it!

Sunday Morning Mobile Musings

Good morning from Bob Rae's biggest and best purchase ever... The Go Train.

Valentine's Day is over, the red and pink hues from yesterday are clearing and life is coming back to normal.

Last night I had that facebook event that I mentioned in the musings. Was good, I recommend the Lamb, but not the service staff.

Today I'm taking another trip, which is why I'm on the Go Train. This one isn't a facebook event. But I'm just as excited.

I like riding the train, it's relaxing, today it's sunny, I can blog to you here from my BB and I have Taylor Swift singing in my ear. It's a happy combination.

There's a chicken wing restaurant where I'm headed, I'm thinking that may be a fantastic lunch idea. I'm not sure how anyone else involved feels about that, but I'm all for it.

Quick fire time before I go.

-NBA All-Star game tonight. Since I picked wrong in all three Skills Competition categories I'm not picking the game.

-Chocolate will be on sale in the coming days, remember that, make room in the freezer and take advantage.

-Tomorrow is a holiday in Ontario, enjoy it, spend time with your family. After all, it is Family Day.

-One month from today it will be Ides of March... So start bewaring now if your name is Julius.

-Watched Wolverine and the X-men this morning, was ok. But just ok.

No links today because I'm on the BB as afore mentioned. Have a great Sunday.

V-day Musings

Happy V-day people. I hope that everyone is enjoying their breakfast in bed and such.

I, of course, am at work this morning. And later today I have an event to go to that I was invited to through Facebook. It means a short day here for me, so that’s my present to myself.

I also hope that yesterday’s tidbits and Awesome’s tips help with your V-day plans.

Sun’s not out too bright so far this morning, unsure what the rest of the day will hold. I do hear that it’s supposed to get colder as the day goes by. Good thing I brought my scarf with me.

Quick fire time:

-Raptors trade Jermaine O’Neal, Jamario Moon, a protected 1st round pick for Shawn Marion, Marcus Banks, 3 million cash

-Toronto Police have suspect in custody after 2 teens were pushed on to the subway tracks during rush hour Friday. Suspect known to Police.

-1 Canadian confirmed on board plane that crashed outside Buffalo

-1 Canadian friend that was on a different flight out of Newark, NJ

-NBA All-Star weekend starts today – I pick Dwight Howard for dunk champ, JK24 as 3-point winner and I’ll take Devin Harris in the skills contest.

-Happy Valentine’s Day xoxo

-I really enjoyed Justice League: New Frontier last night.

Friday the 13th Musings

Happy, scariest day on the early year calendar everyone. It’s Friday the 13th and I’m scared, nervous and worried. It happens every time one of these things pops up.

You see, I’m a bit of a superstitious guy, I like order, routine and I believe that little things that may seem very insignificant can make or break a day. When I was an athlete I was as superstitious as anyone. Same order of getting dressed, same routine getting ready to hit, same warm-up before every game, and if anything went wrong it was a lot to overcome.

It’s the same in my every day life. I catch myself sometimes walking down the street and purposely avoiding the cracks in the sidewalk only because I realize that I’ve missed them on my last few steps. On the flip side I catch myself stepping on every crack because I’ve noticed that I’ve been doing it. My stuff goes in my pockets the same way every day, same order, same things, same pockets. It goes on and on and on, some things I don’t even realize as they are happening, some I won’t admit on this page.

I’m scared of black cats crossing my path, walking under ladders, and all things generally unlucky.

As for daily news: My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the passengers and crew who have died in the airplane crash in upstate New York. I’m not trying to start a daily thoughts and prayers section, but things just keep popping up.

It’s also Valentine’s Day tomorrow, so all of you love birds out there remember to stop and get all the things that your significant other is fond of; Chocolate, Wine, Flowers, Lingerie, Fried Chicken, Beer, etc. Take a look at Awesome’s blog linked to your left for some more ideas and tips.

The weather network says that it’s supposed to be a nice weekend, so maybe take your better half for a nice walk, hold hands, swing arms and enjoy the sunshine on your faces. Tip: A stop at a coffee shop is a good way to warm up for a few minutes and steal a kiss without it being cold on your face.

Romantic movies to watch with the one ya love: Serendipity, 50 First Dates, Sleeping Beauty (special anniversary edition), 27 Dresses, Clerks II, Fever Pitch, Wedding Singer, etc.

And remember that it really is the thought that counts. If you have the money to spend on nice things, feel free to do so. If you don’t have as much as you’d like, make the extra effort. Decorate, get candles, pretty little extras, set the mood, clean-up the place a little. Anything that you can do will go a long way to making it a good experience for everyone involved.

So, with that said, go get ‘em folks. Make it a day that everyone will smile about and look back on fondly. Bon chance.

Thursday's Rainy Morning Musings

Good gross, windy, rainy, floody, Thursday morning all.

I trust that last night was good for you.

I was a happy boy to see my Toronto Raptors win their second game in a row. Here in Toronto that’s a big thing these days. I was also happy to see that the UNC Tar Heels beat the Duke Blue Devils 101-87, a huge win for the boys in baby blue.

I was sad however to see my Montreal Canadiens lose big in Edmonton, and sad again when the BEN 10 movie was on instead of The Batman on TeleToon.

But I digress. There’s bigger news out there. One of childhood heroes has been accused of having unprotected sex with his ex-gf when he knowingly was HIV positive. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I really hope he’s innocent.

People all over the world are suffering because of weather related issues. Rain, Earthquakes, Fire, it’s all scary stuff and I hope that in the end everyone will be able to move forward with their lives and have some sort of reality. Thoughts and prayers are with them.

I get to leave work after only 7 hours today, it’s fantastic. I’m excited. It’s a far cry from my regular 10 hour days. So smiles and cheers all around for that.

The other story that I have my eye on is the Ontario Elementary School Teachers Union labour dispute. The Union has been given a deadline of this afternoon to accept or reject the current and final offer from the government before their strike date comes at the end of March. That would be a lot of students out of classrooms. I remember when Bill C-160 was new and the Secondary School Teachers when on strike and then rotating strike and then work to rule. It wasn’t fun, nobody won in the short term, and I hope that the Elementary School Teachers Union can avoid something like that.

Oh yeah, Chris Brown is still in trouble. I don’t have the interest to do research about things, but I did see a report that Jay-Z is pissed because Rihanna is close to him. If that’s the case, and it’s proven that Brown crossed a line and the alleged assault did take place, you may never hear from that boy again. Jay-Z has enough pull to end a career, believe that.

Ciao for now.

Grey Wednesday Morning Musings

Bonjour mes amis.

It’s a grey, rainy, gloomy day and I can feel it in my bones. My mind has been blank and my keyboard largely untouched.

Last night was again quiet as far as TV that was interesting. I got lucky and the West Coast feed of TeleToon had an episode of The Batman that I hadn’t seen. But after that, meh.

I picked up my latest comic purchase, JLA - Salvation Run, and finished it. It was a pretty fun read. The villains from all of your favourite DC Comics beat the crap out of each other and show some sides of them that I had never seen before. Heck there were villains in the story that I had never seen or heard of before. I should have started this comic thing a long long time ago. Now I have to find something else to read. And a new comic book place to go to find them because the place that I was going to call mine isn’t convenient to buy from. The guy has all of the graphic novels and multiple issue comics behind glass in a trophy case looking thing. And because I’m not an expert and I like to look at books before I buy them, and see the prices, I’m not comfortable there. I don’t want to be the guy that walks back to the front of the store to ask him to unlock the case, then has him watching over my shoulder as I look at things only to have me not buy anything. That would make me feel like a douche. And I don’t want to feel like a douche for not buying anything.

So, if anyone knows of somewhere in Toronto that I can more freely look at a comic selection and choose what I may or may not want to buy please let me know. Thank you.

In other news, I’ve been more affected by this whole Alex Rodriguez thing than I originally thought. At first I said that I was disheartened but not wholly surprised. And that is still mostly the case. But now I’m feeling disappointed, letdown and sad. I really hoped that once in my lifetime I would be able to see a baseball player set the all time homerun record and I would know that he was clean. Now A-Rod isn’t going to be that guy. As of right now there isn’t anyone else that shows the prospect of doing it. Maybe Albert Pujols if he plays for a long time, and maybe Evan Longoria if he hits like a champ for the next 20 years, but I don’t know if I’ll ever get to see it.

Now I’m depressed, so it’s time for me to go. Ta-ta for now.

Tuesday Morning Musings, I'm Back

Good morning all.

I’m dropping in this morning after missing yesterday, sorry about that.

First, I have to admit that I am disappointed with Monday night’s primetime line-up. I had everything scheduled perfectly after last weeks cable package additions and time-shifting calculations, and then everything got messed up.

I was looking forward to Heroes, House, Chuck, Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. And then, boom, it all came crashing down. Heroes was on at 7 on early shifting but then House was a re-run, Chuck wasn’t on because my boy Obama needed the air time and How I Met Your Mother was a re-run as well. Only Big Bang Theory came through with a new episode.

The biggest thing to happen on TV since I checked in last was The Grammy telecast. I watched from start to finish and was mostly impressed. I was hoping that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was going to host the entire show when he was the first to step on stage with a microphone, but that didn’t happen.

I did get to see some of the people that I pointed out Sunday morning win awards which was nice. Kings of Leon, Brad Paisley and Sugarland all picked up little gramophone statues and smiled for the cameras. Seeing Sugarland win made me smile and hearing them sing almost made my cry. That girl has come a long way from “Dear mom and dad please send money”.

I also had a feeling going in that Robert Plant and Alison Krauss would be big winners. The critics absolutely love them and for good reason. They are both legends in the music industry and they sound pretty good together. I’m not sure how much more I want to see Robert Plant on camera or hear him speak. Yikes.

My biggest smile of the night came during Sir Paul McCartney’s performance though. And it was all thanks to Dave Grohl. I can’t remember the last time that I saw a grown man smile so big and sing along to enthusiastically to anything. Dave looked like a little boy playing catch with his idol (as long as it’s not Alex Rodriguez, there I brought it up, are you happy now?)

I did start to think though. How must it make Taylor feel to see his band leader and guitar player playing the drums for Paul McCartney while he sits in the crowd to watch? He’s not even the biggest profile drummer in the band. But, as my special friend pointed out, Taylor started with Alanis, what does he expect?

I also had an urge to grow my hair out to be more like him. I’m not gay, but that man is fantastic, amazing and everything I wish I could be if I were a Rockstar.

Now that I’ve played fanboy a little, I think I’ll call it a day.

I may be back later.

Sunday Morning Musings

Good morning all,

I write to you again this morning from work. But with a much better start to the day.

I woke up this morning with time to spare. And the best part was that I wasn’t tired at all. I turned on the TV well knowing what was going to be on, and thoroughly enjoyed Batman: The Brave and The Bold, Wolverine and the X-Men and part of The Spectacular Spider-Man before it was time to come to work.

And now, here I am at work with the 24 hour news channel on in the background and no cartoons to be seen for the rest of the day. Sigh.

The weather is still sunny and warm-ish outside, except for the wind. There was some ice on the sidewalk outside my place this morning from last night’s temperature dip, but it was to be expected after a 7 degree day yesterday.

Tonight the Grammy’s are on TV and while I haven’t decided if I’m going to be watching them or not I’m sure that I will be checking all kinds of info today on the show and watching clips and reviews tomorrow on my surprise day off.

I have high hopes for the country and pop categories. I have a pretty eclectic taste in music, but that’s where my heart lies.

I’d love to see Leona Lewis, Death Cab for Cutie, Kings if Leon, Jason Mraz, Lady Gaga, Josh Groban, Brad Paisley and Sugarland win among others.

And to be honest I’ve spent the last half hour Youtubing nominees and listening and watching videos. I love music. I admit it, I’m not hiding it, and I’m not sure it was ever a secret. I just love it, listening, singing everything music.

So with this, I leave you so I can go and listen some more. Have a good day everyone.

Bon Weekend.

Saturday Morning Musings

Happy weekend everyone.

I come to you today from work. Not the place that I usually frequent on Saturdays, but it looks like it may become more of the norm. Boo.

It’s warm outside, it’s still morning, and I’m bored and at a computer. I’d much rather wither be in bed sleeping, watching cartoons or even enjoying coffee and walking. That is, if I had to be awake.

I do have an extra large coffee and some timbits here to keep me placated until I’m either awake or I go crazy and run away.

I’ve already updated my NHL Fantasy Team, I’m watching the news (not by choice mind you, but still watching) and once in a while I look up to see the people that are passing on the street.
Boring is today’s buzz word. It’s been uttered at least twice already and we have only been open for 45 minutes.

The news is warning people about potholes that will soon be surfacing because of the fluctuating weather. It makes me glad that I take the subways, streetcars and buses instead of punishing some poor car and my wallet trying to keep it on the road.

The other big news today is that 2 dudes stole an armoured car with 3 million dollars insides. They think that it’s an inside job and the suspects are still on the loose. This may be a story worth watching as it continues.

Otherwise, I’ve got nothing right now. Maybe I’ll be back with an afternoon edition later.

Cheers.

Day Off Morning Musings

Good morning all. I blog to you this morning from downtown on my day off. The streetcar is making it's way east and I'm almost at my stop.

Sitting in front of me and to my left is the requisite crazy man on transit. I don't know him so I don't want to judge, but he's making it very easy. The yelling, laughing and singing was kind of expected. Bit he really caught me off guard when he opened the window in minus 10 degree weather to shout at passers by.

Walked the mall looking for a hat for a friend that nobody in Toronto sells I guess. But my frown turned upside down when I saw Leo Rautins beside me in the hall, and then minutes later... wait for it, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes on Yonge st. I snapped a picture with my BB from across the street and it's on Flickr (follow the link to the left here) go see it.

Wandered around some, sending the picture to a bunch of friends. And am now on the bus on the way home. No hat found, so that's not good. But the excitement was cool.

I'm mobile today on my BB so no links. Tomorrow though.

Bye for now.

Mid-Week Musings

Bonjour and good morning, it’s Wednesday again and I’m here at work. My coffee is hot the weather is cold and the sun is shining.

Last night was a lackluster as far as TV goes. I watched some 6Teen and The Batman on Teletoon between 8 and 9 and then got into the TMN.

The Bourne Ultimatum started at 9 and it was pretty good. There was a bunch of fighting, espionage, and best of all – Julia Stiles!

I’ve loved that girl since 10 Things I Hate About You. “Your eyes have a little green in them (throw up noises)”

Overall I liked the way that they wrapped things up. I know that they were books first, written by Robert Ludlam so there was an ending already there to use. But I tried to read them, and they are a little old and a little slow to get into. And the differences between the Cold War and present day are many and significant.

Damon still had some moves, but I’m not sure that I’d want to see him do another Bourne movie. (Thank you goodness that there were only 3 books)

The acting was alright, the action was satisfying, and I didn’t have to rent the movie because it was on TV, I’d say that’s a winning combination.

After the Bourne credits rolled I realized that it was Tuesday and that meant new movies on TMN On Demand.

I pulled up channel 308 and hit the New This Week link and to my extreme surprise and excitement “21” is now available.

I’d been excited to see this film since I saw the first preview. Part of the reason is that I was a big fan of a Canadian film called “The Last Casino” from 2004. It’s also the story of a bunch of uber-smart math kids that are taught to count cards by their Prof. At this point I’d like to see it again. I hope that I can find it somewhere.

I did like “21” though. It was well put together. The young actors involved did a pretty good job. Laurence Fishburne and Kevin Spacey both played their parts well as should be expected from them. And the girls were cute. No losers at this table.

If nothing else the movie made me regret not paying more attention in Math class when I was a kid. I’ll probably watch it again, I won’t lie, but I may not pay as much attention next time.

As for the rest of the world, I have no idea what’s going on. Obama’s President, Harper’s budget looks like it’s going to pass, Clinton (Hilary) is looking at Asia for her first official with the new gov, it’s cold, it’s snowy, buses will soon be running in Ottawa and students are back to school at York University. Ok, so I may have a small idea of what’s going on. But nothing comprehensive.

Tuesday Morning Musings - Monday Prime Time Recap

It turns out that Monday nights are going to be the very best prime time TV nights as far as I'm concerned. So good in fact that I had to call the cable company to add the US Network Time shifting theme pack. I highly recommend the pack by the way at only $2/ month.

___________________________________________________________________

I started my evening at 8pm with left over Chicken Wings from Super Sunday and some grocery store potato and egg salad. The wings came out of the microwave at almost exactly 8pm and I turned on House.

The promos had played up the fact that Thirteen was going to get sick from the meds Foreman gave her after he put her on the test drug during the trial. And I don’t think that anyone was surprised to see that he had in fact put her on the drug. But it was a pretty good episode.

There was some back and forth between Cuddy and House that comes to because Cuddy genuinely hates the fact that House is making her be at the hospital instead of at home with her newly adopted baby. Wilson points out the truth later and saves the day and everyone’s sanity.

There was some insight given into Wilson's life since Amber died which I didn't expect. Turns out he’s a broken man that hasn’t moved on even enough to close the last book that she was reading at the kitchen/ dining room table.

In the end House and the team saved the patient (as always) and Thirteen can see again. Foreman doesn't lose his license as long as he never tries to work in a trial again. And House has his cane back (you'll know what I mean if you watched the episode)

I checked my twitter a couple times and sent some texts to my special friend and otherwise my 8 to 9 was covered. Dinner was good, had a couple of glasses of Coke and enjoyed the left-overs.

___________________________________________________________________

9pm, Heroes starts! The hiatus has been killing me. I'm a routine based kinda guy. So having Mondays night back is key.

Nathan has started a campaign veiled under the homeland security tag that even gets an Irani-American nervous thinking that he's talking about Arabs and such. We all know (including Peter) that it's about those with abilities.

Cut to Parkman and Daphne. Matt wants to live on the level, while she'd rather speed through things and use what she's got (fair when you consider what happens when she loses her power I figure). The wanderer ends up stopping by in a vision to tell Matt that he should paint the future and after a brief argument Matt’s eyes go all Isaac Mendes and the pen starts going crazy on the paper.

Cut to Claire finding out that Angela is in on whatever scheme Nathan
is planning. Claire is not the nose clean little girl that Noah hoped she'd be.

Stuff starts to hit the fan and our heroes start to get abducted by dudes in all black, super agent looking costumes. Suresh, Peter, Parkman, Hiro, Tracy, Claire, they all get taken (Sylar doesn't, that's right the jerkface is alive and well, kicked a bunch of behind and showed that his abilities are well intact)

-note: during the show I turned the closed captioning on and called the cable company and added the afore mentioned theme pack. The cable girl was great. New channels started working while we were still on the phone. Mission accomplished.

Back to the show. Big warehouse, people with abilities lined up, chained, hooded and walking together. Turns out that Claire is one of them of course as she was taken with Matt from his apartment when she was trying to warn him of what was going to happen. Nathan lets her go and tells her to forget what she just saw. But Claire being the strong willed young woman that she is can't just walk away. Kicks the driver in the head and sneaks on to the plan that the others were herded on to.

Calamity (not the funny kind) ensues and it turns out that Noah is the co-pilot. It also turns out that Peter has his full abilities back as he took some of Suresh’s super strength and Tracy’s super freeze while escaping the cuffs and such that they were locked down in. Thanks to the super freeze ability that Peter stole there's a hole in the side of the plane and there's going to be a crash landing. To be continued... Of course.

The Teaser after the show looks like the show is going to turn into a Lord of the Flies meets Lost situation with the ability gifted running and hiding from The Company and its’ men who will no doubt be able to find out where the plane goes down and send resources.

I had an hour to kill between 10 and 11 because I really don’t care about Medium being on at 10.

I did some dishes, cleaned up in the kitchen a little bit. I updated my Twitter, checked Facebook on my BlackBerry and channel surfed.

To be honest it wasn’t a terribly exciting hour of my night, but I was relaxed and happy that I had already watched House and Heroes and that Chuck was going to be on one of my newly selected US Time shifting channels.

__________________________________________________________________

Chuck started right on time and I was smiling big again. The episode was filmed in 3D for whatever reason and as awesome as I’m sure it was for those people that had glasses, I wasn’t ready or equipped with 3D glasses.

Open the show with Chuck in what is clearly a dream sequence because Sarah was in this hot little black lingerie thing that will make a guy like Chuck know that he is dreaming.

I love this show. It’s funny, it’s quick, the people are pretty good looking, overall it’s good stuff. I always forget that the show is an hour long. I’m not sure why, but it always makes me happy when I realize that it’s going to be on for another 30 minutes.

Chuck’s first flash of the post holiday season clocked in at 5 minutes into the episode. And it resulted in a hi-tech grenade being tossed around like a football until it blew up safely.

Perfectly timed cameo: Jerome Bettis, former Pittsburgh Steelers running back guest stars as Big Mike’s college football teammate.

The Episode also featured that little guy that was on Lost as a rock star junkie and a hobbit in Lord of the Rings. The rock star drug lifestyle was joked on when dude was hit with a tranquilizer and woke back up when he was to have been out for 24 hours.

Second Chuck flash: 26 minutes.

Action sequences start as the mystery starts to unfold and I kind of start wishing I had those 3D glasses to see what cool features they had set up. Oh well.

Chucks final flash: 36 minutes.

Action gets heavier and the bad guy is in sight. Chuck and rock star guy, character name: Tyler Martin end up on stage and dive into the crowd to avoid a knife throw by the hitman working for African terrorists. Sarah and Casey get the bad guy in the crowd, the fans help Tyler Martin surf back to the stage and drop Chuck because they don’t know or care who he is.

Show ends with rock star chatting with Chuck, inviting him to party any time, Chuck says no thank you.

Chuck tells Sarah that he saw her shoot the bad guy on Christmas Eve and it messed with his head. She tells him that he deserves some time off and that he can take as much as he needs.

Casey tells Sarah it’s time to go and they go to the car to leave for a mission. Chuck gets the sad little boy, lost puppy look on his face and then climbs into the back of the car to leave.

End show. 11pm.

Morning Musings - Monday Edition

Good morning friends, I hope that you don’t have Superbowl hang-overs. I don’t, but I had a fantastic night!

I got home from work and my special friend was there with some groceries ready for a Super Sunday feast. The original plan had been for some wings and maybe a couple beers. However, the actual spread ended up including BBQ Chicken Wings, Taquitos, Crinkle Cut French Fries, fresh Celery with Ranch dressing and 6 Tall Boys of Coors Light. It was more than a simple boy could have imagined or hoped for.

1. Celery and Ranch were presented first to snack on while the hot food cooked in the oven. (Which we never use because here is no temperature gauge on the thing at all)

2. The fries were then ready so we sprinkled some salt and vinegar on them, poured some Brown Sugar BBQ Sauce on the plate and ate like kings with our first beer.

3. After the fries were wholly consumed we used the same plate to pile on the wings. The entire box of wings went on the plate and we started eating once again. Bones dropped into a cereal bowl at an almost alarming rate and beer being swallowed to quench thirsts and supplement taste.

4. The last course was the Taquitos. I’m not sure I’d ever had them before, but I can tell you right now that I will have them again. Little tacos wrapped tightly in a cigar type shape, beef and cheese filled and tasty down to the very last bite. We dipped them in Queso Cheese and enjoyed while we moved on to beers number 2 and 3.

Meanwhile, there was a game going on of course. And it was a good one. I was cheering for the Steelers and thought that things were going pretty well for the good guys, but it got dicey there for a few minutes in the fourth quarter. I also said aloud that the under (46.5) was looking good even in the third quarter, but hey, what do I know. It’s a good thing I didn’t have any money riding on things.

The game ended fantastically with Santonio Holmes making a ballet inspired catch in the back corner of the end zone to put the Steelers ahead in the final minute of play and a Steelers fumble recovery with only 5 seconds left to seal the deal.

Overall I can’t say that I wasn’t happy with any part of Superbowl Sunday. It’s a holiday as far as I and many other people are concerned, and a good one at that.

Happy Sunday, Superbowl Musings

Happy Sunday everyone. It is the biggest TV Sunday of the year, hands down.

I saw a fact today that worldwide, the top 10 watched programs in history have been Superbowls.
Other random facts: in 1984 Apple advertised its' first computer.
Budwieser has run more Superbowl ads than any other advertiser.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will have their 6th Supoerbowl win if they win today, more than any other NFL team.
The Arizona Cardinals have never won a Superbowl.
Over 1 billion chicken wings will be eaten on Superbowl Sunday (some at my apartment)
How I Met Your Mother had the funniest Superbowl sitcom episode ever (in my opinion)
The Food Network will have aired at least a dozen shows with Super Bowl themes by Super Bowl week’s end.

In other news, there isn't much really.

Happy Superbowl everybody.

Wings at my place.
