Hump Day Muse, Late April Edition

Happy hump day mes amis.

Last night was a frantic with channel changing and sports watching Chez Wally. There was a baseball game on Sportsnet, 2 NHL Play Off game 7’s on TSN, NBA Play Off’s on The Score and on Raptors TV… and I did my very best to keep up with all of them.

- Blue Jays won behind a solid effort from B.C. native Scott Richmond.

- The Washington Capitals won their game 7 match up with the New York Rangers on a late goal by the ageless Sergei Fedorov. The win completed a come back for the Caps after being down 3 games to 1 in the best of 7 series.

- The New Jersey Devils decided that they didn’t want to play in the second round of the NHL’s Stanley Cup tourney, giving away the their game 7 to the Carolina Hurricanes.

- The Boston Celtics beat the Chicago Bulls in Overtime to take a 3 games to 2 lead in the first round series of the NBA’s post season tournament.

It’s date night tonight for Wally and E-ve, and we’re looking into dinner and a movie. I know it’s cliché, but don’t judge us. We like things a little cliché.

If anyone has seen Victoria Stafford please contact police. I know you’ve seen the stuff on TV and in the newspaper and on the internet, but this is a little girl not with her family and a family without their little girl. Thank you.

I woke up this morning with a chill. It seems that the landlord decided to turn the heat off yesterday, and I was ill prepared as the window was open and the fan was on. There was a breeze this morning and about a 9 degree Celsius temperature outside when the alarm went off.

Great dinner made in the tiny little alcove that we call Wally’s kitchen. Pasta boiled with salt, margarine and hot sauce in the water, pan fried smoked sausage with fresh green and orange bell peppers, topped with black bean and corn salsa. I may not have much room in there, but I love to play with the ingredients.

Jake and Romeo will soon be here for a visit together for the first time since we moved home base to Toronto. We’re looking forward to the debauchery that we can accomplish in just 2 short days. Stay tuned for more head shaking information.

Happy birthday wishes for tomorrow go out to the oldest of my younger brothers. More best wishes for more people next week.

I think that’s all for today people.

Morning Musings, Last Tuesday Of The Month Edition

What up internet?

Welcome to your Tuesday morning everyone, I hope that your Monday turned out as well I planned for you.

Started the day this morning with a message from Daddy Z, things are good and he’s hoping that E-ve and I can get out to his place for dinner and a visit sometime soon. I do too.

It also reminds me that I should call Mommy Z and see how she’s been lately. Remember my friends, call your mothers, they love you, and it’s never a bad thing just to call and say hi and I love you. I may not know much, but I know this.

Side note: Mother’s Day is coming up on May 10th. Remember to get something nice or call or send a card or something.

Let’s get right to it shall we. Last night was season finale night for both Chuck and Heroes as we mentioned in the morning. And, last night I watched both finales. I was ok with the direction that Heroes went. I think it’s a little silly, and perhaps even dumb. But, it does leave lots of room for new changes, twists and story lines in the future as it looks like this is a show that isn’t going anywhere any time soon. The big one of the night for me though was most definitely Chuck.

The Wedding of Ellie and Awesome (the actual wedding) was amazing, dream worthy, eye welling amazing. The story picked up the pace and kept on surprising and exciting and making me hope that there will be a season 3. Near the end of the show I posted a couple of tweets to the effect of “@NBC please please please don’t cancel Chuck!!! We love him” and “@Chuckwatchers I lurve this show! Chuck knows Kung Fu! #Chuck #theIntersect”.

If the show ends where it ended last night I will be sad for a long time. I have been told by E-ve that I will be permitted one good wallow in my sadness if it happens. I hope that I don’t have to use it.

Side note: Scott Bakula is still awesome, so is Chevy Chase as a bad guy and Morgan Fairchild was great in limited action too.

My Blue Jays didn’t do well in Kansas City last night. At all. The only bright spot in the broadcast was Joe Carter showing up in the booth with Jamie Campbell and Darren Fletcher for a couple of innings. We still haven’t lost 2 games in a row all season though, and hopefully we can get a win in the mid-west tonight to continue that streak at least.

I also watched parts of Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother last night. CBS is doing alright with those guys still. Keep up the good work.

Journey just came on the iTunes radio here my friends. Whatever you do, Don’t stop believin’.

And on that note, adieu. And if you this is the only day of the week you stop in, See you next Tuesday!

Sunny Monday Morning Musings

Welcome to your Monday morning friends, foes and family.

It’s gorgeous and sunny and I’m thankful for that because E-ve is making the trip back to me from Ottawa today!

By all accounts it was a great birthday weekend for our friend and that makes me happy. Bon job planning everything E-ve!

Big Blue Jays win yesterday. Congratulations to Roy Halladay who now has at least one win in all of the American League ball parks. Also a big well done goes out to lefty Scott Downs who has stepped in and saved 2 games in 2 chances since BJ Ryan went down with that tight left trapezius muscle.

Side note: I tried to cheer for the New York Yankees last night on Sunday Night Baseball. It hurt my brain and it didn’t work, the Red Sox won.

It’s Monday my friends (as we’ve already qualified) and that means that both Chuck and Heroes get to rock my world tonight on time shifting after the ball game. It’s also season finale night!!! I’m a little bit excited for sure. It’s Ellie and Awesome’s wedding tonight on Chuck, so that should be tons of fun.

It’s sunny and gorgeous as I mentioned with a high in Toronto set for about 26 degrees celsius (78.8 fahrenheit for our non-metric friends) with no rain forecasted until tomorrow.

What can’t Beyonce do? Her new movie, Obsessed has gone number 1 at the box office despite being hammered by the critics as one of the worst movies ever. The flick brought in $28.5 million over the weekend knocking Matthew Perry off his mountain top and down to second place with $11.7 million earned.

Experts are reminding everybody to keep your hands clean whether by washing or using hand sanitizer to help fight off things like the Swine Flu. We wish everyone good health in what has turned into a worrisome time for some.

Here’s hoping that everyone had a great weekend and has a good start to their week.

Cheers.

Sunday Musings, Bon Weekend!

Happy Sunday everyone!

I hope that you all survived whatever weather may have come your way last night. Here in Toronto there were trees down, subway delays and power outages. I’ve heard the same about the power being out in parts of Ottawa.

It was dark and windy and rainy like crazy in the early evening. It took me back to a memory of a tornado from a few years ago. Honest, I was there, true story. In the end everyone lived happily ever after.

Found some fun info this morning while I was surfing through the interweb, I’ll share what I can.

Ex MuchMusic VJ Amanda Walsh (remember her?) has finally made it big in Hollywood-ish. She’ll be appearing in the new Matthew McConaughey flick, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. She left Much a few years ago to pursue a real live acting career, and now, here she is.

And because everyone loves a musical, producers have started the creative process on Shrek the Musical! That’s right, the big green Ogre is going to sing. The chances are slim that it will be Mike Myers will be playing any of the parts on stage of course. But it is kinda cool.

Sad news this weekend as entertainment legend Bea Arthur has passed away. The Bea was around for a long time, and my generation will always remember her from Golden Girls, but she did a lot more. Condolences go out to the family and friends of Ms. Arthur.

Exciting news found today!!! Ms. Taylor Swift has been announced as a performer at the CMT Awards on June 17th! Set a reminder on your BlackBerry or iPhone so that you don’t miss the show, it’s gonna be awesome!

I should probably go, there’s lots going on in the store… and Blue Jays baseball is ready to start.

Have a great day my friends!

Friday Morning Musings, TGIF Day Off Edition

Good morning my friends!

TGIF everyone, here's hoping that you're all happy about the great weather that is upon us. And a double hope that you're going to have a chance to enjoy some of it.

Safe travels to E-ve and co. as they make the trip to the capital for a big birthday party. Have a blast.

Another win for the Blue Jays last night. I can't believe how often I've been able to write that this season already.

Big ups to all our new friends on Twitter. If you're reading this, you're awesome, and if you still haven't found us on the Twit, @Wallyzblogger is the way to find us.

Watching re-runs of The Daily Show right now. Dude makes me giggle. I would like to point out however that I am not one of that huge percentage that gets all their news from Stewart and Colbert.

Posted pictures last night on the myspace page that E-ve sent from her iPhone. She caught the Toronto Marlies vs. Manitoba Moose play-off game. Manitoba came away with a win, but it sounds like everyone had a good time anyhow.

Time has come to do grocery shopping for the fridge and cupboards. Looking for cheap, easy and awesome ideas. Email wally.z1.0@gmail.com with your awesome ideas.

This is a day off edition, so I really haven't done anything other than watch some TV, check some highlights and stories online, hit twitter, myspace and facebook and lounged in bed. Jealous much?

Once again, TGIF!

Bon Weekend!

"Late" Morning Musings, Day Off Edition

Good afternoon friends!

It's a day off edition today, so I didn't write this morning. I think that's fair.

Thoughts and decisions come from Camp Wally. It appears that we'll be writing a book with a friend about our favourite thing... Baseball. It will cover a lot of ground, including the geekdom of the sport.

Side note: You'll soon be able to see some of the thoughts on the geekdom of baseball at www.hotpinkgeek.com

Great night of wine and fried chicken with my E-ve last night. Those Popeye's biscuits are fantastic. And as left overs give them a try cold with some hot sauce and chicken skin. You won't be disappointed.

So long and farewell to mes Habitants in Montreal. Here's hoping that the Flames and Canucks can keep up the momentum that they are building on their way to a Stanley Cup.

I hope that everyone had a great Earth Day yesterday. Remember, it's the small steps day to day that will help us become more earth friendly. When you have a chance visit www.bambigoesgreen.com

Also, as I was watching cp24 the other day I heard a great point. When it comes to saving electricity and money, turn the lights off. If you are going to be away from any electric appliance, including a light bulb, for more than 3 seconds you're better off turning it off.

Big extra inning win by the Blue Jays last night. Thank you to Kevin Millar for bailing out BJ Ryan.

Side note: People, friends, baseball fans, it's time to stop taking We Love BJ signs to the ball park.

The sunshine is bouncing off of the BB so it's time to say goodbye.

Later days.

Wednesday Morning Musings, Earth Day Edition

Happy Earth Day my eco-friendly companions.

I hope that everyone is doing their part to make this world a little bit cleaner so that some day our children’s children can blog about us as heroes.

I saw Toronto Mayor, David Miller on cp24 this morning with the students of Our Lady of Sorrows School getting ready to plant trees. It’s pretty impressive to see that many children up, dressed and ready to do something productive while I’m still putting my pants on in the morning. What ever happened to the days when we were those kids that were hyped to make a difference and plant trees and make everything better with simple steps.

Side note: Big ups to the teachers and faculty at schools all over the world that are organizing Earth Day events. Thank you for going above and beyond in your efforts to save the planet and teach our youth to do the same.

Side note II: I’ll be tracking Mayor Miller on his Twitter feed today to see what other awesome things he and the city are planning for Earth Day.

Last night was a big night chez Wally. That’s right, it was beard removal night. There was clipping and shaving and moisturizing and in the end there was a (mostly) hairless face. I think we dropped at least 3 years in the quick look category. And as a bonus, the grey/ white hairs that were poking their way out at on the chin are gone.

Side note: I do need some new razor/ clipper products. Hint hint. (not you E-ve) If anyone is giving away free stuff I’d be happy to test it out.

Side note II: On a similar point, I love free stuff. If you have food, clothes, dvds, music, money, gadgets, trinkets, toiletries, etc. email me and we can set something up for sure!

Congrats go out to our www.hotpinkgeek.com hero Bambi Blue who told me yesterday that she will be interviewing George Takei from TV’s Star Trek. Most famous for his role as Hikaru Sulu, Takei has really done it all. Bon job Bambi, good luck.

Sad faces as Roy “Doc” Halladay lost his first start of the season last night to the Texas Rangers. We’ll get ‘em tonight boys. David Purcey takes the mound for the home nine at Rogers Centre at 7:07 pm.

I emailed Blue Jays play-by-play man Jamie Campbell last night during the game to ask him a question about Ricky Romero and his chances at April’s Rookie of the Month Award. No answer yet though. I did send it to his work email address though, so maybe he didn’t have it forwarded to his BlackBerry during the broadcast.

Thanks to E-ve for showing me a new mall yesterday. Fantastic lunch at the Bourbon Street Grill in the food court. Good times.

It’s going to start getting sunny and nice in the next few days my friends, so get your shorts and tank tops, and sandals and sunscreen ready!

Have a great day!

Tuesday Morning Musings, Post 4/20 Edition

Good morning fellow interneters.

This morning starts with shout outs for E-ve and her family. They’re all pretty awesome and we hope for speedy recoveries and calm happy lives.

Last night was of course Monday night Prime Time, and that meant that I watched Chuck and Heroes after hockey on the CBC.

Chuck was good, again. (Please NBC, don’t cancel Chuck) And Scott Bakula and Chevy Chase were back for the episode and both look to be back next week for the wedding of Ellie and Awesome. Huge things happened including Awesome finding out about Chuck’s real gig, Casey having a gun in Sarah’s face and Chuck and Sarah “this close” to having relations in a hotel room (Morgan scammed the condom from Chuck’s wallet, so no dice) Oh yeah, and Chuck’s dad building an Intersect machine to remove the info from Chuck’s head. Now we just have to wait and see if it works.

Side note: I kinda hope it doesn’t. I want Chuck to be in love with Sarah have babies and stuff, but I really want there to be a reason for a third season.

Side note II: NBC has wedding invitations available to send to your friends and family for Ellie and Devon’s wedding (And season finale) next Monday night. The link is in the section!

Heroes was good last night too. Things are getting a little weird again leading into the season finale next Monday as well. (Monday will be a big night in the Wally Z apt) It took me a few minutes to realize that this week’s show was running on a parallel time line to last week’s show. Once I did though things made a lot more sense. Everyone is starting to get captured and it’s gonna be messy I’m afraid. This is a show that we know won’t be canceled, as it’s the biggest thing that NBC has going on (Condolences to Medium) And as bitter as I will be if Chuck waves good bye, I’ll still watch Heroes.

The Habs lost again last night. I don’t really want to get into it. Go Flames Go!

Tonight is the first “Messin’ With Recession” night at Rogers Centre with the Blue Jays. It’s not a bad promo really whether you want to take the family, or plan a mid-week boys night out, or Man-Date. 500 level tickets are $5 a piece and hot dogs are $1 each. That’s not bad friends. Plus, we’re a winning baseball team, and who doesn’t love a winner. Tonight’s promotional souvenir is a Foam Finger, you’d have to be nuts to pass this up if you have the chance to go.

Only in Canada could this next news happen. A dude in Saint John N.B ordered his double double in the buff while going through the drive-thru. Apparently the ladies working the window didn’t appreciate the humour, or heat or comfort or whatever and called the cops. I’m sure that there’s a witty joke or pun to be made in this situation. If you think of one, let me know.

We’ll end the way we started today. Happy thoughts to E-ve. xoxo

Rainy Monday Morning Musings, 4:20 Edition

Welcome back to the work week friends and foes. I hope that you’ve packed your umbrellas as we are experiencing some of April’s fabled showers.

Congratulations to Z-Efron for being tops at the box office this weekend with 17 Again. The movie brought in over $24 million in its first weekend at the theatres to lead the pack. But I think that the bigger story is that Matthew Perry is in a number 1 movie!

Side note: Vivica A. Fox thinks that Zac Efron is Muy caliente.

Today is of course April 20th which is 4:20, and because of that there will be protests and rallies for legalization of Marijuana. Whether you are for against the movement there are certainly many arguments to be made. There are tax dollars to be collected, policing issues that could be made much clearer, but also regulation things that would need to be sorted out, impaired driving issues and testing questions, etc.

I’m not here to play know it all or Mr. Conscience, just play safe kids.

Sad, sad faces here today as msn.ca’s entertainment section has a list of 10 TV shows that are reportedly in danger of being cancelled. The reason for the sad faces is that NBC’s Chuck is on the top of the list. NBC has at least 2 other hour long shows that are in danger, so why cancel Chuck? We love Chuck, who doesn’t live Chuck? Who cares about Life or Kings? Please NBC, I’m begging you, don’t cancel Chuck. I could handle a time slot change, I could work with that. (And I’m not good with change, ask E-ve) But please, don’t let the boy go.

Those Toronto Blue Jays just keep on rolling. A 1-0 win yesterday puts the team at 10-4 and is encouraging because it means that we don’t have to score big runs to win ballgames. And how about Ricky Romero, this guy is making a push to be rookie of the month in the American League. He’s got a 2-0 record, has 3 quality starts, 21 innings pitched and looks good doing it.

Fingers are crossed for a win tonight by my Montreal Canadiens. The series is back at the Bell Centre and just to make the fans feel good we need to see at least one win.

Happy thoughts and positive karma out to E-ve and her family today. Get well grandma E-ve.

Side note: E-ve and I both recommend Tucker’s Marketplace Restaurant after a fantastic visit to the buffet last night.

Stay dry my friends.

Bon Weekend, Sunday Morning Musings

Happy Sunday everyone!

I hope that everyone is enjoying the nice weather. It’s been amazing here in Toronto. And I’ve only had to be at work for all of it.

Moving on though, I apologize for not writing yesterday. I was hungover, and staring at the screen and typing words just didn’t appeal.

Big ups to the Toronto Blue Jays who are playing again today with a chance to win their 4th consecutive series of the young season. It’s been a long time since I’ve been this optimistic. It’s cautious optimism, but optimism none the less.

And big ups to us for figuring out how to add music to the BB. There are a lot of things that we take pride in, computers and such is not one of them.

Sad faces go out to everyone that is cheering for the Montreal Canadiens. It’s been tough so far this post season, but we are all hoping that things turn around a little bit when the series shifts to Montreal. Thank you to George Stroumboulopoulos for being brave enough to be a Montreal Canadiens fan in Toronto.

Congrats to E-ve and everyone else who has finished their exams for the semester. Well done.

I’ve been busy writing a lot of baseball copy over the last few days. There’s a blog at myspace.com about being able to love baseball now as a grown up just as much as when I was a kid and the differences that can be loved at the different ages. There’s also a piece that I’m working on about the geekiness of the game and how it truly is a game that everyone can love.

We’re also excited that our buddy Romeo is soon going to be close enough to visit. And plans are in the works for Jake to visit again so that we can all hang out together. This is good news.

I’ve just realized that I have yet to read my Batman: Hush comic books that I’ve had since before Hockey Day in Canada. Maybe it’s time that I do that before they collect a bunch more dust.

I think that’s all for today mes amis.

Enjoy the sun. Bon Week-end!

Finally Friday Morning Mobile Musings

Good morning one and all and welcome to your Friday.

It's a gorgeous, sunny day out there, so here's hoping that if you're at work you at least have a view of the outside world.

Last night was a fantastic night for sports fans like us. While the Habs may have dropped game one against the Bruins, all signs point to a good series (especially if Montreal can stay out of the penalty box). Meanwhile, my Blue Jays were once again pounding out hits and runs against the Twins in Minnesota and improving their record to 8-3 on the season. That's a .727 winning percentage after 11 games which is about 1/15 of the season. Still a long way to go, but when you can quantify it with percentages and fractions things look a lot more hopeful and real.

Side note: All of this geeky baseball and numbers stuff will lead into the piece I'm writing for www.hotpinkgeek.com

Day off today, so while I'm coming to you live from the mobile I get to channel surf and plan my day.

So far it's been cp24, The Score, Boston Legal, Enchanted (on now, and yes, I'm watching it again, and yes I have been made fun of by E-ve and Jake for watching it before) then at 1 o'clock there's a Yankee game on Sportsnet and at 2 o'clock there's a Cubs vs. Cardinals games on WGN (thank goodness for cable and such) after all of that fun, who knows.

Good luck to E-ve on her last exam of the semester this afternoon. Knock 'em dead baby.

Side note: If you've never had chicken wings for breakfast, you're missing out.

Quick fire time.

- Ashton Kutcher beat CNN in the race to 1 million Twitter followers. It was a charity gig and the result it 11,000 mosquito bed nets being donated.

- Wally Z finally has a bio up at HPG. (Our own fault it took so long)

- The weather is supposed to stay nice over the weekend. Enjoy it gardening tanning, playing catch, walking with your hunny and the kids, any way you can.

- Patrick Dempsey is fantastic.

Big welcome home to Mrs. E-ve's mom.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by.

Have a great weekend, we'll see you tomorrow!

Happy Humpday Morning Musings, Mid-Month Edition

Good morning and welcome to the middle of the work week. If you’ll all please take your seats we can get started. Thank you.

I submit for your approval the notion that baseball may be hiding more geeks in its fan base than any other major sport in the world. I’m not going to get in to it fully right now because it’s a much much longer conversation. It will be available soon.

Side note: This is going to have to be a well structured argument and proof system to satisfy my fellow geeks @ www.hotpinkgeek.com

Side note II: When visiting www.hotpinkgeek.com please remember to type all of the title, especially if you are at work or in the same room as your parents.

It’s a wonderful time of year ppl. College and University students are finishing exams and getting ready to move home. The sun is shining and the birds are chirping and the temp is rising. You know what they say about a young man’s fancy in the spring time.

My Blue Jays lost a heart breaker in the 11th inning last night against Justin Morneau and the Minnesota Twins. I will say that I’m impressed with Ricky Romero so far in this young season. Last night he pitched 8 innings of 2 run baseball. Well done young man.

I am pleased to report that DC has released Green Arrow: Year One by Andy Diggle in softcover. I’m anxious to get my hands on it and add it to the shelf. I know that E-ve will make fun of me, but there’s no use hiding it.

Elsewhere in the DC Universe, Green Lantern: First Flight is scheduled to be released on July 28 and will follow the same lines as the Wonder Woman movie. These movies are PG-13, so remember, even if the little ones in your life love their heroes, it may be best to watch after they’ve gone to bed.

Remember my friends, The Geek Shall Inherit The Earth.

Another Sunny Tuesday Morning, Musings

Good morrow mes amis.

Let me transcribe part of a sms conversation between E-ve and myself last night.

E-ve: The Big Bang Theory is you.
Wally: Which one? (character)
E-ve: All of it!

That’s right folks. My E-ve, the apple of my eye, the straw that stirs my drink, my Wonder Girl, thinks that I am the sum of all the things that are geeky on the CBS hit comedy. And you know what, with only some small exceptions, I’m pretty ok with that. Hands up if you love this show. I’m thinking that something will have to be focused on to become a follow-up to the Ode to Chuck.

It was another big win for my Blue Jays last night in come from behind fashion. Young Travis Snider led the way with 2 homeruns. And we remain on top of the American League East.

Side note: Skee-Lo, I Wish just played on the iTunes radio, that’s why I love this thing.

Katy Perry’s version of Use Your Love has made me fall back in love with the cover. (Thanks E-ve) Here are some of the covers that I just can’t get enough of. As always, don’t judge me.

- Katy Perry: Use Your Love

- Ben Harper: Sexual Healing

- Johnny Cash: Hurt

- My Chemical Romance and The Used: Under Pressure

- The White Stripes: Jolene

- Dolly Parton: Shine

- Fall Out Boy feat. John Mayer: Beat It

- Jordis Unga: The Man Who Sold The World

- Nirvana: The Man Who Sold The World

- Etc.

Feel free to tell me how ridiculous some of these choices are or which ones I may have forgotten.

What else is new… the sun is shining again. That’s always a good thing.

In entertainment news: Mel Gibson’s wife of 28 years has filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences, Chris Brown is allegedly on the rebound and dating a university student in Virginia, Lindsay Lohan’s friends are urging her (through the press) to get help dealing with her break-up from Samantha Ronson. I’m sure there’s a ton of other interesting things worth finding as well.

Today’s big ups go to everyone in my life that is awesome. Thank you for being awesome and for continuing to let your awesomeness surround me. (E-ve, Jake, Mommy Z, etc.)

With that, we’re all done for today I think. (At least for now)

Have a great rest of your day.

Mid April Monday Morning Musings

Welcome to your new week my friends. As we’ve said in the past, if you have today off… we can’t be friends.

I hope that everyone enjoyed their weekends, long or otherwise. And that if the chance was there you were able to spend time with your family.

Big shout-outs today to Ray Luebbert. Ray commented on our Ode to Chuck on www.hotpinkgeek.com

I very much appreciate the feedback that Ray offered and hope that many other people will hit the website to see the Wally Z pieces and the pieces posted by other people as well. The only thing that I feel I have to say today is with regards to hate speech. I don’t like it. It’s not cool. Ray had a little rant about Jocks. He mentioned that they work in convenience stores, drink cheap whiskey, live in trailer parks, beat their wives and lose at life. Now, I’m not sure what the back story is, and I don’t know Ray, so let’s assume that we like him, he’s good people if he likes to visit the website. But talk like that breeds further resentment and hate and prejudice and overall bad feelings. I know that kids are mean, they say and do things to impress other people, to fit in, to be cool and they hurt other people to do it more often than anyone likes to admit. But as grown-ups it’s our job to forgive or move on or just be the bigger person. That’s all. Thank you for indulging me and my soap box sermon.

Top spot at the box office goes to (drum roll please) Hannah Montana: The Movie. Hannah grossed $34 million over the weekend to wrestle top spot from Fast & Furious by a narrow $5.2 million.

Breaking news: The Obama’s have a dog! Bo, the 6 month old Portuguese Water Dog will from now on be calling the White House home. Big thanks to Sen. Ted Kennedy for the Easter gift of the puppy.

The NHL playoff series are set. Mes Canadiens will face the Eastern Conference top seed Boston Bruins in an Original 6 battle that I can’t wait to see. My apologies to E-ve ahead of time as we are now into the second week of the Major League Baseball season, the NHL playoffs are ready to begin and the weather is getting nice. I hope to schedule a walk or two in the sunny city. Everyone can win.

Side note: Good luck to E-ve and everyone else writing exams this week. Big ups to my mom as she writes her final exam tonight on the way to her Degree. Felicitations mama!

Side note II: I love iTunes streaming radio. Good times for sure, great mixes, and all of my favourite hits from the 90’s!

Side note III: This is the first 13th of the month since January that hasn't been on a Friday!

It’s Monday and that means awesome prime time TV. I’m worried that I may have to sacrifice House for the baseball game and watch Chuck and Heroes on time shifting while catching bits and pieces of How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory on commercials. My remote is going to get a work out and I’m going to try not to fall asleep or get story lines crossed.

I think that’s all for today my friends. Again thanks to everyone for reading, and also for passing on positive thoughts.

Spring brings with it new life and hope from the dark and gloomy days of winter.

Happy Easter Sunday Morning Musings

Good day friends. And Happy Easter or Passover to whom ever may be celebrating.

It’s a sunny day, the temp is a little low but we’ll manage. Big thanks to E-ve for making sure I got where I needed to get today, and on time no less.

New post up at www.hotpinkgeek.com it’s an ode to my new geek hero Chuck. And I see the irony in calling him my hero when on the same night of the week (wonderful Monday prime time) I watch a show called Heroes. If you have other geek heroes from TV shows feel free to add comments there or here. We love the feedback.

UK viewers of MTV have voted for their top albums of all time. And let’s keep in mind that this is a UK result. But it’s always fun to see who gets top votes on these types of list. Here’s the top 10. Agree or disagree. The biggest surprise has to be Craig David at number 2, but I will admit right now that I owned the album. I bought it right before I left to go to college. The rest of the list and the story can be found in today’s links.

1. Michael Jackson - 'Thriller'
2. Craig David - 'Born To Do It'
3. Guns N' Roses - 'Appetite For Destruction'
4. Radiohead - 'OK Computer'
5. Nirvana - 'Nevermind'
6. Oasis - '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?'
7. Oasis - 'Definitely Maybe'
8. U2 - 'The Joshua Tree'
9. Arctic Monkeys - 'Whatever People say I Am, That's What I'm Not'
10. Amy Winehouse - 'Back to Black'
11. The Strokes - 'Is This It?'

Huge start to the year for my Toronto Blue Jays who take to the diamond in Cleveland this afternoon looking for the 3 game sweep and an early 6-1 record on the season. Mark these dates on your calendars Jays’ fans. It’s unlikely we’ll be at the top of the AL East standings much deeper into the season.

Thanks to my fam for a great dinner on Good Friday. It’s always nice to get back out to the farm for turkey and the fixings. Missed out on the cranberries, but it happens, did not ruin the meal.

It’s time to watch a baseball game my friends. I hope that you all enjoy the rest of the day, and if you have tomorrow off… I’m not sure we can be friends.

Positive thoughts continue to go out to E-ve and her mother. Thank you for joining me in the thoughts.

Friday Morning Musings Mobile From The Train

Happy Friday ppl.

There's an old story that doesn't paint this particular Friday as happy, but it is what you make it.

There's a girl behind me on the Go Train telling some stories to a dude about her extra-curricular college experiences, makes me scared to have a daughter. And it makes me want to tell her to call her mother and tell her that she's sorry.

Headed back to the dirt roads for dinner w/ the fam (or parts of it) and then back to see my E-ve.

Side note: Thank you everybody for your positive thoughts and best wishes yesterday. Both E-ve and I appreciate it.

There was a pretty stretch along Lake Ontario on the train ride, families and couples and even singles walking along the sandy beaches. It's still a little chilly to be in the water, but for a walk and skipping stones, it's pretty perfect.

Just finished reading a comic mini-series called "Ball and Chain" was good. Thanks to Jake for giving them to me a while ago. It's a pretty touching story. Lots of relationship stuff, and an ending worth reading for.

Keep an eye on www.hotpinkgeek.com over the next few days for new stuff. Silver has a jewelry piece up now, Bambi is always working on something and I banged out a piece yesterday on the BB that should be polished shortly. Thanks from all of us for the support.

Almost at my stop. Peace and love y'all.

Have a great day.

Thursday Off, Morning Musings

Good morning friends and newcomers.

It's a day off edition of the morning musings so we're mobile.

First and most importantly thoughts of love and support go out to E-ve and her mother. Please join me in passing on these thoughts.

We've been complaining about the weather a lot lately. But not today. The sun is out, the temperature is up and a walk is scheduled. I'm impressed and glad that things have turned back around.

The Blue Jays lost their first game of the year last night. We're 2-1 now. Game four of the season and the series with the Tigers goes today at 12:30pm and will feature the MLB debut of LHP Ricky Romero. You may not know who he is, but I do. And I hope he gives you a reason to know him soon.

Galen Weston is talking to me on TV right now about the new PC Water Filter. This guy may be the best pitch man around. In a show down with Shamwow Vince, I'll take Galen every time.

I made a comment to E-ve yesterday about harmonies in music and how they make me happy. I didn't fully explain, and to be honest I don't know if I have the words to explain it at all. But I think it comes to a point around connections and how they seem absolutely perfect set to music. I have favourites, mostly in country music because I get to hear dudes and girls singing together more.

Now that I've waxed all poetic I think it's time to say adios.

Enjoy your day and your evening. Here's hoping tomorrow starts a long weekend for you.

Snowy April Hump Day Musings

Welcome to your day. It’s Wednesday I believe. That makes sense. With that all figured out, Happy Hump Day.

New reports are coming out today about the dude that stole the plane in Thunder Bay and landed it on a dirt road in Missouri. The guy was apparently hoping to be shot down by American military jets before he ever would have had a chance to land. Adam Leon, 31 landed the Cessna 172 and walked to a local grocery store where he bought himself something to drink and waited for police to find him and arrest him about 35 minutes later. I’m not sure what to make of this, it’s a sad story if the guy thought that he wanted to commit suicide but wasn’t able to bring himself to it. Hopefully the charges and things won’t push him further into depression. Best wishes Mr. Leon.

Last night was almost a clean sweep for Toronto sports teams, almost. The Leafs knocked off the Devils who continue to slide into the playoffs. The Blue Jays wouldn’t roll over and play dead against the Tigers, and despite BJ Ryan’s best efforts, we were able to win the game on E-ve’s bf Rod Barajas’ RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th. The only loss in the group goes to the lowly Raptors who just can’t seem to play with any consistency. The Atlanta Hawks came in to town and almost looked like they were going to hand Toronto the game. Then they decided to start scoring because the Raptors weren’t guarding, and we lost the game. Same old story, at least it’s almost over.

Big shout out to my friend Bambi Blue, writer extraordinaire. Find her at www.hotpinkgeek.com there on the left side of the screen. And if you or anyone that you know wants to pay her, or me for that matter to write for you let us know.

Side note: It’s snowing again today in Toronto. Boo!

E-ve just asked me if I was excited for Easter, the answer is yes. There will be chocolate, ham, and cranberries, maybe some wine, for sure some rum and some family too I suppose.

Blockbuster says they may go bankrupt! That’s right. The people that I have been buying used DVD’s from at cut rates are saying that they may not be able to survive much longer due to the current economic climate.

I’d like to take this space to appreciate some awesome Wally’s in the world. Wally West, Wally Szczerbiak, Wall-e, Me… ok so there aren’t a lot of famous dudes named Wally. In fact only 1 on that list is a real Wally. But it’s a cool name, so we’re sticking with it!

I think that’s it for today. Stay warm my friends. It may look like spring out there, but it’s a lie.

Snowy April Tuesday Morning Musings

Good morning snow covered friends. And good morning as well to those of you that aren’t watching snow flakes dance in the wind.

I’m having flash back moments to my childhood right now talking about the old cartoons that our generation used to watch. It all started with that $35 He-Man collectible that I saw at Silver Snail on Queen St E.

Here’s a quick list of the classics that I can think of.

-He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

-Thundercats

-Transformers

-Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels

-The Care Bears

-Duck Tales

-Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers

-Tailspin

-The Gummi Bears

-The Raccoons, etc.

The list goes on and on of course. And I’m interested to hear what classics got everybody else out of bed on Saturday mornings.

Last night was a good night to be a sports fan. I know that I say that a lot, but last night it was especially true. Yesterday was Major League Baseball’s true opening day. I know that there was that one game on Sunday night, but yesterday was the real deal. And I’m jealous and proud to say that E-ve was in the 500 level of the Rogers Centre to watch Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays pound their way to a 12-5 win over the Detroit Tigers. I watched on TV and it wasn’t a particularly pretty game but a win is a win. Big congratulations to Adam Lind for driving in a career high 6 runs last night and being the current MLB leader in the RBI category.

Side note: Last night in the 8th inning the Tigers manager Jim Leyland pulled his players from the field and there was a 10-15 minute delay in the game. It happened because some of the fans at the Rogers Centre were throwing things on to the field. E-ve tells me that she saw an empty mickey of Vodka, paper airplanes, and baseballs. Unacceptable my friends. I love having a good time as much as the next guy does, and I have no problem with a beach ball or two making it on to the field, but come on people, nobody needs to get hurt. Thank you.

Also last night I was able to brag and be a little bit of a jerk to friends about my UNC Tar Heels winning the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. It was a big win over a Michigan State team that was supposed to be fueled by destiny. But sometimes in sports, destiny just can’t compete with talent.

Congratulations to coach Roy Williams on winning his second national title. And congratulations to the players. These guys took a lot of heat for being the best (kind of like the Yankees, when they were the best) and now they can look back 20 years from now and tell their kids that they were the best in the country. North Carolina Powder Blue was a man’s colour last night!

Big ups to Lady Antebellum for being our new myspace friend, and for having an amazingly catchy, sweet and harmonious hit with “I run to you”.

And I am admitting right here, right now, that Lady Gaga may have the catchiest pop tunes in the world right now.

That’s all for today folks. Enjoy the day, it’s Tuesday, which means it could be worse… it could be Monday.

Messy Monday Morning Musings

Welcome to your Monday friends.

Favourite headline of the day so far comes from British Colombia. Mud Swallows Woman’s Pants. She was out on an ATV with friends and things got bad. Fire crews rescued her before the mud took her forever, she’ll be ok. The pants though were sucked right off of her body.

Fast & Furious was tops at the box office over the weekend proving that guys with cars will still drive to movie theatres and buy tickets even in a recession. The movie grossed $72.5 million, more than doubling last weeks high earner Monsters vs. Aliens. All I’m going to ask that right now while it is snowy and rainy and gross on the streets, please don’t be racing your car around town like you’re Paul Walker. You’re not. Thank you.

Congratulations to everyone that won Academy of Country Music Awards last night. Well deserved. Our friend Taylor Swift took home album of the year honors for Fearless and was awarded a special crystal statue for selling the most country records of the year and bringing young fans back to country music. Reba was an amazing hostess as expected and the show (parts that I saw at least) looked good.

Baseball also started last night as we were giddy about yesterday. The Braves beat the Phillies and tonight everyone else (weather permitting) takes to field to start their 162 game campaigns. In Toronto it’s almost a flash back to 32 years ago when the Blue Jays played their first ever game against the White Sox at old Exhibition Stadium in the snow. This year it is snowing, but we’re playing the Tigers and there’s a roof on the Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays do open tonight which is great! We don’t have a lot of expectations heaped on the team, but consistency and competition are all I’m asking for. E-ve has plans to go to the game tonight. I plan on asking her for a score book and maybe a picture or two from her iPhone. I should probably ask her before she reads my requests here. Xoxo

Went for a nice little walk with E-ve last night in the village to the east of the apt. It really is a nice little neighbourhood, and will be worth walking around in when the weather decides that it wants to turn to spring and summer. Here’s hoping that it comes sooner rather than later.

Easter is this coming weekend, which means family and food for me. It also means a Stat Holiday on Friday of this week. For those of you who celebrate Easter, cheers. For my friends who do not, cheers to you too. I hope that everyone is able to take advantage of the long weekend to be with loved ones.

Happy Monday again mes amis, I hope that the rest of the week goes well for you all. Study hard for exams and get ready for the summer.

Sunny Sunday Spring's Here Musings

Good Sunday morning ladies and gentlemen. I hope that if the sun is shining you are enjoying it, and if it’s rainy, or heaven forbid snowing, you are snuggled warmly in your bed.

I walked out the front door this morning to find the phenomenon known as the free Sunday newspaper sitting on the step. The paper has been coming most Sunday’s since mid-February and I have no idea why. There’s a big #3 written in black marker that tells me it’s mine, and sometimes it’s even been right outside of my apt door. Weird to say the least. Especially since this isn’t a paper that I would pay for. At first I thought maybe it was a Sunday edition subscription from E-ve for my birthday, but then I realized and she confirmed that it isn’t a paper that she would pay for either. They do have the best sports section though, so that’s something.

The Academy of Country Music Award show is tonight, and you know what that means…. Taylor Swift! Ms. Swift has 4 nominations tonight which is fantastic. I do have to be fair and mention that there are others with more nods. Veteran hit maker George Strait has 6 chances to take home a trophy this year, which is pretty good for a dude that’s been making Wrangler jeans famous for almost 30 years. And Kenny Chesney is aiming for his record tying 5th consecutive Entertainer of the Year award.

Side note: There’s a fantastic youtube video from the 2008 CMT Music Awards of Sugarland, Jake Owen and Little Big Town covering “Life in a Northern Town”. It gives me goose bumps and chills every time.

Side note: I really do <3 country music. And I thank my mom for introducing me to it when I was young. The story telling makes me smile and cry and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

This is also the night that WWE Wrestling celebrates the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania. Whether you like it or not, this thing has become one of the biggest sports/ entertainment events of the year. If you have the cash and the friends that want to watch it’s hard to go wrong with having a bunch of guys and girls over to view the spectacle. Have everyone pitch in and there you go. In the past my friends and I have written down our picks in matches and then compared results after the show. I’ve never won.

Yesterday was a fantastic sports day for us. The Toronto Raptors won their 6th game in a row, too little too late, but fun to watch. The Montreal Canadiens took a huge bite out of the Toronto Maple Leafs and put a 5 point spread between themselves and the 9th place Florida Panthers. Michigan State beat number 1 ranked UCONN to advance to the NCAA finals on Monday night. And my boys from the University of North Carolina will join them after beating Villinova. The only loss was that of Toronto FC in their home opener against Seattle.

Side note: I was 10 years off yesterday, the Michigan State championship was 1979, 30 years ago. My apologies.

And I know that spring is here because tonight the MLB season officially starts. The Atlanta Braves take on the defending World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies at 8pm on ESPN2.

That’s all for today my friends. Enjoy the rest of the day and the remainder of the weekend.

Happy Saturday Morning Musings

Good morning y’all.

It’s the weekend and that means that my mind is kind of wandering. Even though I’m at work there are a bunch of random thoughts that are running through my head and leading me to the internet.

I was on youtube and remembered a fantastic clip of a 4 year old lip-syncing to Jukebox Hero. It’s 4:14 of adorable little kid being a rock star. The only question that I’ve got (and I’ve heard it from others) is whether or not it’s child abuse to make a child listen to Jukebox Hero enough to know the words.

New pictures are up on the myspace of the things that I saw while I was out with Jake. Some of the toys that I didn’t take a picture of were the Guitar Hero figures. I just don’t get it. Why the heck would anyone want an “action” figure of the fake Guitar Hero guys. What is the world coming to?

NCAA semi-final day is today! I’m excited. There are story lines galore for everyone to fall in love with. 1. This is the 20th anniversary of Michigan States NCAA championship with Magic Johnson at the helm. Michigan State is playing in Detroit, and giving hope to thousands of people that are going through really tough times in Detroit and the surrounding areas. 2. 3 of North Carolina’s top players skipped last years draft to come back to school and to have a chance to win a National Championship. Tyler Hansborough could have been a top 5 pick in the draft last summer, and now he’s looking at being a late first round or early second round pick. That is a huge difference in money for this young man.

Big smiles came yesterday when I discovered that BlackBerry is joining the App store game with BlackBerry App World. So far I’ve added the Hockey News and Wattpad and will no doubt be looking for more as the days go by.

Fingers crossed that we get to see E-ve this weekend. Plan may be to watch some Wall-e since the DVD now resides on my shelf with the rest of the collection.

Hannah Montana is on the HDTV in the store right now. I’m not sure what to say… there is a 19yr old girl and two 20-something dudes sitting here. Don’t judge us.

Side note: The Hannah Montana Movie comes out soon!

And we’ll close on that note today my friends. Bon weekend.

Rainy Friday Morning Musings. Mind Blown Edition.

Good morning, thanks for permitting us a couple of days to relax and such. We’re glad to be back.

The reason that no new posts got sent from the BB was that Jake was in town staying at the apt. When Jake comes to town we always have a good time. It’s predictable, dependable, you might even say reliable.

Wednesday night E-ve and Jake and a couple of other friends and I went to a comedy pro-am in Toronto at Absolute Comedy. The headliner, main event and show stopper of the night was, without a doubt Debra DiGiovanni. This woman is hilarious. If you ever, ever have a chance to see her, be there. If you haven’t seen her, turn on your TV. She’s been on Last Comic Standing and Video on Trial among other programs. She’s quick, funny, jovial and has a surprisingly filthy mouth. I liked it. It was probably the best $6 dollars for a couple hours of entertainment I’ve spent in a long time. Well done Ms. DiGiovanni.

Thursday night Jake and I went to 6 Degrees in the same neighbourhood and saw Bert V. Royal’s “Dog Sees God”. It was fantastic. Amazing. It blew my mind. If you have the to see this play, do it. It’s been extended to April 18th at 6 Degrees on Yonge St, just north of Eglinton. It’s smart, funny, sad, obnoxious, hot, provocative and will make you question everything that you thought you knew about the Peanuts gang and high school kids, your friends, family and children. I’m not sure if I will be able to watch “It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown” the same way this year. And I’m glad we aren’t close to Christmas because I’m not sure I’d be able to watch the “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at all. Because we’re a family show I’m not going to run a bunch of review stuff here. This is an adult only show, that much I will tell you. And I would not want to be sitting beside my mom while watching it. I may post some more about it on the myspace. It really was uber fantastic. It was also pretty cool that the producers brought playwright Bert V. Royal to Toronto and had him sit and watch the show without telling the cast. They brought him up on stage after the show and the reactions on the faces of the cast were priceless. I’m pretty sure that Adamo Ruggiero (Degrassi: The Next Generation) was crying.

In between entertainment venues we hit book stores, comic shops, sports memorabilia dealers and other such places while walking around the streets of the city. There are pictures of things that we found that I will be posting on Flickr and myspace. Found a great Wally Szczerbiak figure from the McFarlane toy collection, a He-Man figure that is going for 35 bucks, when I’m pretty sure it’s almost the exact same as the ones we used to play with as kids. There were even Heroes figures, so I snapped a picture of Claire Bennet. Save the cheerleader, save the world.

It’s a sad week for NHL hockey in Ontario as both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators were eliminated from the NHL play-off hunt. And with the Edmonton Oilers struggling in the Western Conference we may be looking at only 3 Canadian teams in the tournament for the Stanley Cup.

In other geek-worthy exciting news, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is now on book shelves. I saw it at HMV for 25% off. It’s on my shopping list now. Photo will be uploaded.

It’s raining hard here today ppl, drops are bouncing back up off of the street. I warned everyone about umbrella’s needed. Here’s hoping you listened.

That reminds me, I need an umbrella.

That’s all for today folks. Have a great day leading in to your weekend.
