Saturday Morning Musings, E-ve > Batman Edition

Good day to you all.

I hope that this finds you all well.

Welcome to the weekend, and a huge weekend it is.

For those of us puckheads and Olympic enthusiasts tomorrow will mark the biggest game we’ve ever watched. Be ready for Canada vs. USA friends. It could get crazy.

Big lovin’ to E-ve who ended up working a double shift yesterday at the restaurant. Good people do good things. You read it here. She is the awesome. And like I said on Twitter yesterday, I love her way more than I love Batman.

I forgot my chapstick today. Which sucks because my lips are drier than they have been all winter long. It figures that my system would fail me on the day I need it most. Sigh.

The snow is in the air here in Toronto again today. And some people are sick of it already. Makes me wonder what would have happened if we had a real winter earlier on.

I finished my Batman comic yesterday that E-ve got me for my bday. It was pretty good. And if Kevin Smith says that Widening Gyre is a better Batman story I think I will have to read it at some point to find out.

Finishing Batman also means that it’s time to start reading World War Z. Everyone loves a good piece of Zombie literature, and I’m hoping that this book is no different.

For some reason there isn’t a lot coming to mind today as I sit at the keyboard. Weird I know.

We’re rocking the iTunes radio on the computer right now while we wait for the latest episode of Survivor to download. My co-worker is a big fan, and who am I to deny him?

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Chile. Yesterday’s earthquake was large and caused a lot of destruction. I hope for the best for those of you with friends and family there.

In other nature news, there’s a huge iceberg floating toward Australia. They say that it’s half the size of Prince Edward Island, that’s a big chunk of ice kids. And they also say that it’s not global warming related. Wild eh?

I think that’s all for now.

Have a great Saturday.

Friday Morning Musings, Big Day Planned Edition

Hey there amigos.

Welcome to Friday. Here's hoping that things are fine.

Big high fives to E-ve for being awesome. We had a modified date day after plans changed yesterday but she was amazing.

I got World War Z for my bday and that was followed up with Batman: cacophony. Both are books I was itching to read and add to my geeky collection and now I can.

We also watched some curling and cheered for our Canadian skips as they earned their way into the gold medal games. And then we watched our Canadian women play a great game of puck and earn a 3rd straight Olympic gold medal.

Shout out to Pizza Nova who makes some tasty pizza and some surprisingly juicy and yummy chicken wings. Great meal to go with the games.

A special eff you to my stomach who has not taken kindly to chocolate birthday cake for breakfast.

As I mentioned on Twitter yesterday I have decided that I'm gonna start begging for comic books. I'm not talking about trading sex or anything that way. But gratitude and written praise and bartering will be available. So, if you've replaced single issues with trades or you've lost your love of the masked heroes or heck, if you just wanna support my habit like Jake and Romeo and E-ve do (love you folks) let me know.

Today will be spent relaxing, thinking, planning, reading, napping, TV watching and listening to my gurgly tummy on my day off. Tomorrow it's back to the store.

I'm sure that there's something I've missed today other than the men's hockey games you certainly know about already. And if I think of it I'll be sure to update the Twitter feed accordingly.

Have a great day kids, keep smiling.

Tally whoa!

Thursday Morning Musings, Day Off Date Day Edition

Howdy y'all.

I hope that you were all able to witness the drubbing that Team Canada put on Team Russia last night. I fist pumped more during that 60 minutes of hockey than the entire cast of Jersey Shore did on MTV this season.

Here's my lovin' to E-ve. I'm excited for todays hang out and date day. Looks like some shopping mixed with food and perhaps some nap time. 3 things that I do enjoy. Plus, she's the awesome!

I put the question out on my Twitter and I'll put it here as well. Should I look to update my Green Arrow trades or pick up some Batman stuffs or go over to Marvel and see what Kevin Smith did with Spider-Man way back when? Let me know what you think.

They say more snow is gonna fall in Toronto today as well. I suppose I should do my best not to fall over and get soaked while I'm out. So far I've been lucky this winter, but you've always got to be careful kids.

I'd be remiss not to mention the Canada vs USA gold medal game today in women's hockey. Especially since I already told a dude on Twitter that there was indeed hockey tonight when he was complaining there wasn't.

Big ups to Seamus and Melissa on CTV's Olympic Morning. They have great chemistry and have been fun to watch.

I'm jealous of E-ve's Olympic mittens.

I've been trying to come up with non sports Long Form Muse ideas over the last few days. But it's been tough. I'm pretty dialed in right now. Maybe next week we'll be back with more.

Side note: Still a big fan of Taylor Swift.

Remember to keep smiling and laughing my friends. It's the key to a good day.

I think that's all for today. Or at least for now. Check the Twitter update to see what other trouble I can get into.

Have a great day kids.

Wednesday Morning Musings, Ups To All Edition

Hola amigos.

I hope that you’re all well on this hump day.

Big ups to E-ve at work. Smile big and flirt for tips. Your horoscope said so.

Trying to come up with ideas for hang out date day tomorrow. Doing my best not to have them all revolve around comic books or comic books movies. It’s tough. Maybe a dinner and left over birthday cake will make up for whatever silliness I come up with.

Huge ups to Team Canada after a great effort last night against the Germans. It was exactly what the team needed and maybe more importantly what the fans needed. With the Russians on tap tonight everyone wanted some confidence going in to tonight. An 8-2 win will give you some confidence.

Also, some of the biggest ups we have go out to Joannie Rochette who skated the best short program of her life last night. With the weight of the world on her shoulders and the thoughts and prayers of a nation behind her she was superb. She now sits in 3rd place going into the long program.

It’s snowing just a little bit in Toronto today. I don’t think it will amount to anything, but it does make it feel like winter outside. Better late than never I guess.

Thanks to Sean from Bad Deacon Design for the offer of a free woodblock print. He had a great idea to get followers on Twitter yesterday by offering a free print to anyone that started following him. I shot him a quick email to tell him that I loved the idea and thanks for the offer. He says the print will be on the way shortly. Check out the website http://www.baddeacondesign.com/

I’ve now moved everything over to my new JLA bag including pins. I think that makes it officially my new day to day shoulder bag. The old one will stay in the apt though. It’s too good to throw away.

Reminder: Chuck comes back with new episodes on March 1st.

E-ve and I had an sms discussion about the bobsled racing last night. I think it would be fun to try and maybe even drive. She thinks that it would be too much of a chance. Add it to the list of things to maybe try some day.

Happy Birthday to step-sister Z.

If you’re on Twitter and like to laugh and love words and writing you should follow FakeAPStylebook. It won’t disappoint.

I think that’s all for today. I’ve got to get my shift in and rush home for some puck.

Have a goodie.

Tuesday Morning Musings, I'm Back, I Told You I'd Be Back.

Good day lovelies.

I hope that you’re all well.

I’m sorry for the being away. I’ve been away for the bday and also with the sick. It was a good and not so good respite from the real world.

Big, huge, large love to E-ve for helping me get over the bulk of the sick while she was going through it too. I tried my best to help her too. We had soup and cuddles and tea and naps. She is the awesome.

Big love also to Romeo and Jake and Daddy Z and Auntie Z for a great birthday weekend. A good time was had by all, smiles and laughs were abundant and I am happy to be a year older.

I’ve also moved my day to day things to my new JLA bag that I got from Ottawa as a present. It’s super comfy and will certainly get the job done.

Congrats to all of the Canadian athletes who have excelled over the last few days. Our gold medal total has climbed to 5 and the women’s hockey team and both curling teams have very strong chances to add to that tally.

I got some spending cash from Daddy Z that I think will turn into comic books as long as E-ve has lifted the purchase for myself ban.

Toronto finally got snow yesterday which has caused some slippery streets and wet walking for folks today. The plows look like they have done a good job and so far the city is still moving. They are calling for more precipitation today, but with temperatures above freezing I’m not sure it will be snow. There will be moisture in the air for the next 5 days or so in a row. Be ready friends.

Tres excited for the Canadian men’s puck tonight against Germany. It should be a game that Canada has little trouble with, but after watching the messes against the Swiss and the Americans I’m not super confident. I will be cheering from the comfort of my bed with soup I’m sure, but cheering for sure.

I have a feeling that cheesy, English muffin garlic bread would go well with soup tonight, but I don’t know if that’s a good idea.

I think that’s all for today mes amis. I’m gonna have to ease back in after taking so many days off.

And as always, if you’re only here this one day a week, we’ll see you next Tuesday.

Thursday Morning Musings, Falling In Love W/ Speed Skating Edition

Bonjour amis.

I hope that you all made it over the hump and have landed safely here on Thursday.

Big ups to E-ve for coming over to visit last night. It was a great way to end a long day. We chatted and laughed and smiled and cuddled and it was the awesome. Just like she is.

Also big thanks for all of her help planning this weekend’s getaway. I’m excited.

It sounds like Jake and Romeo are getting excited as well, and that makes me happy. I haven’t seen them in far too long.

I am falling in love with the sport of speed skating. It’s fast, competitive and has 2 different disciplines. Long track is so pretty to watch with the athletes showing pure power and speed as they travel around the oval. And short track has tons of excitement. The racers are flying around the track, shoulder to shoulder with other skaters, no pads other than a helmet and taking corners so sharp that they have to put their fingers down to steady themselves. Watching them pass is a thing of fright and beauty as crashes at high speed can happen, but when executed properly it is perfection. It also helps that Canada is pretty good at the sport and are picking up a few medals in Vancouver.

I could really use a few sales today before I take a 3 day weekend. So if you know anyone in Toronto, send them my way.

I could also use tips on new job opportunities in Toronto. I’m not super worried about the money my friends. At this point if I can find something that makes me smile and puts close to a couple grand in the bank a month I’ll be well ahead of where I am now.

I’d like to thank Reba McEntire for influencing so many of the female country artists that I love listening to now.

Today is my 3rd straight 10 hour shift/ 12 hour day so that I can have 3 days off in a row. That’s the way things go around here. Get used to it.

Good luck to everyone who is now on day 2 of Lent and giving things up. I hope that it’s going well so far.

I wasn’t able to give up pancakes as I had left overs with peanut butter last night for dinner with chocolate milk on the side. It was very tasty.

Does anyone know of anything awesome going on in Peterborough this Saturday? E-ve and I are looking for plans. wally.z1.0@gmail.com or www.twitter.com/wallyzblogger

Is there a Country 105 dance somewhere maybe?

I’ve got designs on writing a bunch today so I think I’m gonna call this a wrap.

Have a great day friends. If I don’t post over the weekend don’t fear me dead.

Wednesday Morning Musings, Pancake Hangover Edition

Hola kiddies.

I hope that everyone is ready for this midweek madness.

I am especially pumped for Wednesday this week because it means that I have plans to see E-ve tonight. And that’s a pretty awesome prospect in my books.

It’s also a special Wednesday for a lot of folks. Ash Wednesday triggers the beginning of the Lent season. I was going to give up pancakes, just to be a smartass following last night’s Pancake Tuesday dinner, but there are so many left over pancakes that it looks like I’ll be eating them for dinner again tonight.

There’s already a picture up on the Twitter feed of the Home Cooking Experiment Pancakes.

Here’s to my E-ve, she had a rough rough night at the restaurant yesterday and I’m hoping that today goes much smoother. Everyone deserves a nice calm day once in a while and E-ve doesn’t get nearly enough of them as far as I’m concerned.

It was a special day at Cyprus Mountain yesterday as Maelle Ricker won a gold medal for Canada in the Ladies Snowboard Cross event. She dominated the final race and picked up the 2nd gold and 4th overall medal for Canada at Cyprus. Congratulations young lady, you’ve done a nation proud.

And big ups to Jamie Campbell who has called 4 medal runs at Cyprus during the Olympics thus far. When he was the play-by-play voice of the Blue Jays Jamie caught a lot of flak from the fans, but I never had a problem with him. And now that he’s been replaced in that job he has had the chance to call the 1st gold medal ever won by a Canadian athlete in Canada as well as 3 other medals. Congratulations Jamie, I think you’re gonna be just fine.

Rumour is that the new Justice League movie may make an appearance in the store today. Let’s keep that between you and me though.

I would probably be remiss if I didn’t mention the fact that the Canadian Men’s Olympic Hockey Team played their first game last night. They looked a little tentative in a scoreless first period against Norway, but soon showed what they are capable of with a final score of 8-0. Well done les gars.

Yesterday I entered an awesome contest that I don’t expect to win, but it would be awesome if I did. The Hour is giving away a complete set of Kevin Smith’s Green Arrow and Batman comic books signed by the dude himself. So I entered to win them in a random draw. Good luck to me.

There’s snow falling this morning in the city. It looks nice, it’s not sticking to the ground, and it’s not too cold. Overall it’s a pretty good winter morning.

I have a feeling that my morning coffee isn’t going to last too long today. Boo!

Big lovin’ to everyone that sends me lovin’.

Have a great day y’all.

Monday Morning Musings, A Golden Family Day Edition

Good morning world.

Happy Family Day to all of my friends in Ontario.

Big lovin' to E-ve today. We didn't get to spend much time together yesterday but I am happy to report that I didn't ruin the surprise of bringing her flowers at work. I was close, almost told her I was coming to see her at the restaurant, but I managed not to eff it up.

I was also a lucky boy as All You Can Eat Wings was available at my seat at the bar. I rocked a pound of Guinness BBQ, a pound of Honey Garlic and a pound of Mild wings to go with my iced tea. And then topped it off with a cupcake that E-ve made and brought to work for her for co-workers.

I also got to see Kristina Groves win her Bronze medal in the 3000 metre long track speed skating finals before I made my way home.

And boy am I glad I came home when I did. Ladies and gentlemen, it's not fancy or exotic, but years from now I will remember that I was at home in my tiny apartment when Alexandre Bilodeau won the first Gold medal for Canada in Canada.

Bilodeau was amazing in his final run in the Moguls and made a nation proud and almost made me cry when the final score was announced and he was the winner. Twitter exploded with response for this amazing young man. If you haven't heard his story go to www.ctvolympics.ca and look for his info. He is a truly great man first and athlete and now hero after that.

Excited that Heath and I have plans to hang out in pre-birthday styles today. Just awaiting a call.

Thinking I should get me some breakfast here soon. Choices include granola bars, cereal, slice of huge cookie, eggs, trail mix, etc.

I think that's all for today kids. My brain is blanking with Olympic coverage on the TV and no food in my belly.

Have a great day.

Sunday Morning Musings, Jay Mewes Is A Hero Edition

Happy New Year to everyone out there celebrating the Year of the Tiger.

First and foremost a big happy Valentine’s Day to my E-ve. She’s the bees knees and the best Valentine a dude could ask for.

Secondly, happy Valentine’s Day to everyone else. I hope you all have a great day.

And happy birthday wishes go out to Daddy Z and our friend Bambi Blue from http://www.hotpinkgeek.com/

We’ll be seeing Daddy Z next week to wish him a good year in person.

High fives to Jenn Heil who had an amazing run in the Woman’s Moguls last night and took home the silver medal. I watched her run and cheered in my apartment as she took over the lead with only American Hannah Kearney left to ski. Kearney though, was amazing herself. Both women had almost perfect runs and I’m sure that Kearney’s friends and family and fans are proud of her just as Heil’s are happy to have seen her on the podium.

Last night also saw the death on the Dunk Contest. Unless something huge happens next year at All-Star week-end February 13th 2010 will be the day that people remember as the end. DeMar Derozan and Nate Robinson went head to head in the finals with Nate taking 51% of the fan vote to win his 3rd title. Derozan had the dunk of the night with an assist from Sonny Weems, but both dudes were flat in the final round. Charles Barkley’s commentary was the most entertaining part of the even overall.

There won’t be a single one of you that is jealous of last night’s at home dinner. It’s also the reason that there aren’t any pictures of it. I will tell you that sausages, creamed corn, salsa, Tabasco and onion were on the ingredient list. Let it never be said that I’m not creative in the kitchen.

I’ve just reached the part in Kevin Smith’s My Boring Ass Life where the story of Jason Mewes and his struggles with drug addiction is told. It’s an amazing tale that draws me in every time I start reading the book. Mewes is a celebrity, but to read about him in this way makes him just a regular dude. I’m glad to hear that he’s clean and sober and fighting the good fight. If you’re looking for a story with a happy ending after some very very sad parts, this is the one for you.

I feel like I’m doing a good thing right now as in the background of the computer I’m doing work to help out a Reverend. And, it’s Sunday. Mommy Z would be proud.

I just got the news that one of my favourite people in the world and his boyfriend have broken up. It makes me sad because they were together for a long time. But he truly is an amazing dude and I have no doubt that things will work out for him.

It’s a little bit grey outside today. But is it ever lovely temperature wise. I forgot to put my scarf on this morning, but it certainly didn’t matter. And to be honest, most years, if we were to have weather like this on the 14th of March I’d be happy. Weird weird weird.

I’m trying my best not to put on Youtube and watch Zac Brown Band videos.

I think that’s all for today mes amis. Have a great day. Enjoy Family Day tomorrow if you’re off and get to sleep in like I do. And enjoy the NBA All-Star game tonight if you’re into that kind of thing.

Saturday Morning Musings, Let The Games Begin Edition

Hey there kiddies.

Welcome to the weekend if you’re lucky enough to be spending it doing something enjoyable.

I don’t mean to sound bitter. If you’re not working, or if your work is something that you love and you’re doing it today, I’m happy for you. Just try not to brag lest I resent you.

Big lovin’ to E-ve who has a sleep in morning and then a long, long day ahead. Please and thank you, if you’re going for lunch or dinner or both at the restaurant make the effort to smile and be polite to all the servers… but tip E-ve the most. She’s pretty awesome.

I’m crushing on her and missing her and listening to a lot of country music that will do nothing to help those feelings. X’s and O’s.

Happy birthday wishes go to Ottawa and a pretty good guy. He’s asked that wishes to him for a happy birthday also include best wishes to some friends of his that are going through some tough times with their health, and so we send as many best wishes as we can muster.

Big ups to the Toronto Star for giving away free newspapers for the duration on the Vancouver Olympics. I picked up the 500 lb Saturday Star this morning on my way to work and will give it a read a little later on. Thanks guys.

With regards to the tragedy that took place at the Olympics yesterday I would like to send my thoughts out to the friends, family and teammates of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili. I would also like to send my thoughts to the people of Georgia who have prepared themselves to cheer for their athletes at these games. Lastly, I would like to give all of my support to the athletes of Team Georgia that have decided to stay in Vancouver and compete to honor the memory of their fallen teammate. This is the power of sport, the spirit, the love and the opportunity to help people come together in times of great struggle.

I was a great deal of last night’s Opening Ceremonies without sound as I was out on the town with some old friends. And while I can’t comment on anything sound related I can tell you that I thought the visuals were stunning. From the costumes to the video boards, it was all grand.

There have been a lot of jokes online about K.D. Lang and her look last night. I have nothing to say on the matter and plan on trying to find the video of her singing Hallelujah in the next few minutes.

And the last thing I’ll hit from Vancouver is the lighting of the caldron. As Canadians we are fiercely proud of our people and stars and their achievements. And we have many, many people that would have been more than qualified to light the caldron based on service, status, legend and lore. With that in mind there were many, many people that would have been great choices to both carry the Olympic flag and light the caldron. And I think that VANOC did a great job of bringing a fantastic group of people together. My personal highlights included Anne Murray, Betty Fox, Bobby Orr, Romeo Dallaire, Donald Sutherland, Rick Hansen, Steve Nash, Catriona Le May Doan and Wayne Gretzky. That is an amazing group of athletes and citizens and most impressively, Canadians. It was a proud moment to watch even without the sound.

Last night I managed to make myself some quick nachos for my dinner at home. It was late, and they may not have been the best choice, but they were tasty. I fried some onion, added refried beans and salsa and let it all simmer with a little Tabasco sauce and had sour cream on the side. Like I said, tasty.

I think that’s all I’ve got for now my friends. Pop in later on the Twitter feed to see if there’s anything new. Or find us on Facebook. Wally Zed or Wally Z’s Morning Musings.

Friday Morning Musings, Reggie Reggie And A Big Cookie Edition

Hey there friends.

It's Friday and we all know what that means... Yesterday was Thursday.

And a great Thursday it was. E-ve and I had a wonderful day of hanging out and eating and grocery shopping and walking and Booster Juicing and napping and Kevin Smith watching from morning til night.

Wednesday night E-ve actually came over to start the date and rocked a great dinner for us. 3 courses including Mussels, salad and 5 cheese medalians with a Bolognaise sauce. Mmm.

Wednesday night also saw the Habs break up the Capitals winning streak. The Raptors beat Philly and the much anticipated return of Reggie Evans to the Raptors line-up. The fans chanted his name as he prepared to enter the game for the first time this season.

Today it's back to work after some schedule changes but right now I'm mobile as I head to another store for a pick-up. Not a bad way to waste some time.

I'm getting quite excited as my bday draws near and I get to spend time with E-ve and Jake and Romeo and Heath all at the same time. All the while being spoiled by my favourite Auntie Z.

Today is of course the first day of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The first event goes on the ski hills this afternoon and the Opening Ceremonies will officially kick things off tonight.

Good luck to all of the Team Canada athletes as they go for gold.

Last night I popped in the DVD of the 2002 mens hockey gold medal game from Salt Lake City to get myself ready for the action. And even though I fell asleep mid-way through the 2nd period I'm pretty sure that Canada won.

The new TV is being set up at work right now, so there will be Olympic action available as well as all the other action that the sporting world has to offer. I'm happy.

I think that's about a wrap for now my friends.

I'll close with some awesome news. E-ve very much seemed to like part 1 of her Valentine's Day surprise which made me very happy. And E-ve herself busted out with the surprising by baking me a huge chocolate cookie with a big icing I Love You written on top. The picture is on Twitter and will soon make its way to Facebook. I'm a lucky guy folks.

Have a great Friday and a fantastic weekend.

Wednesday Morning Musings, Home Cooking Experiment And Reggie Evans Edition

Bonjour mes amis.

Let’s get to it. Happy Wednesday.

Big ups to E-ve on a day off. I hope that it’s super relaxing and full of nothing.

Monday night we had a great hang out date night after I got home from work. The relaxing and chatting and such was fantastic. E-ve also contributed to the Home Cooking Experiment by whipping up some split pea w/ ham soup and cheesy English muffin garlic bread.

We’re hoping to have another tonight, but I’m not sure what’s on the menu as I forgot to get anything out of the freezer.

Last night’s Home Cooking Experiment saw me put together some taquitos and veggies just like the Super Bowl, but I also made some hashbrowns with cheese on top. It was a good combo with pickles and cheese on the side. I ate a lot of food, but I must have been hungry because I wasn’t guppied or anything after.

Tonight the Raptors and Canadiens are in action. The Habs look to bust up the Washington Capitals win streak which won’t be easy. And the Raptors look to win a game that shouldn’t be an issue against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Word is that Reggie Evans may hit the floor for the first time all season. That would be welcome.

I watched the Toronto disk from An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder last night. I hadn’t watched it in a long time and it was awesome. I laughed out loud a few times, especially at the Jesus jokes.

Let me set something straight here, I love Jesus. He’s gotten me through a lot in my life. But I’m a firm believer in needing to be able to laugh at things so that they don’t become too serious and start to edge towards angry.

The snow is falling in Toronto today. But it’s nothing compared to what some cities in the United States are getting. New York City made the announcement yesterday that they were closing the schools today. And Washington D.C. is getting pounded.

We are only 3 days away from the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Everyone is getting pretty excited. I’m just hoping that the venues work out and the Canadians are able to put on a good show.

More and more photos from the Home Cooking Experiment are making their way to the Wally Z’s Morning Musings page on Facebook. Check them out to see what I’ve been putting together.

I think that’s all for today folks. I hope that you all have a rocking good time with the rest of your day.

Monday Morning Musings, Post Super Bowl Edition

Good day y'all.

Congratulations to Saints fans on the Super Bowl win. I'll admit that I made a poor pick yesterday.

Big lovin' to E-ve today. She's pretty awesome even though she also made a poor Super Bowl pick.
I finished both parts 1 and 2 of E-ve's Valentine's Day surprises yesterday and emailed part 2 to her. I know she's getting them out of order, but I think she's okay with it.

Since last night was the Super Bowl it was a junk food edition of the Home Cooking Experiment. I threw some left over McCain pizza in the fridge with a fresh piece of cheese on each slice and then fired some taquitos in a tin pan as well. To appease E-ve and feel like a grown up I chopped up some onion, peppers and baby carrots to go with the meal. And to my surprise the veggies were good.

Yesterday also saw the Raptors win another game at home. Hedu wear a mask and come back from his orbital bone break to contribute nicely.

I don't wanna talk about the Habs game.

High fives to Heath and Jake and Romeo, I can't wait to see them.

Was told yesterday that my celebrity doppleganger should be Jason Schwartzman. Not sure how to take that. I'd rather Dave Grohl.

I think that's all for today folks.

Have a great day.

Sunday Morning Musings, Snack Like You Mean It Edition

Hey there kids.

It’s Super Bowl Sunday. I hope you have your snacks ready.

Big ups to E-ve who is going to be at the restaurant during the big game. My prediction is that the bar will be full, there will be lots of beer, chicken wings and nachos ordered and the Colts will win by no less than 6 points.

E-ve is willing to give 3 points in the Colts favour. Which was unexpected, but impressive.

Side note: She’s a great story teller.

I’m in a huge Foo Fighters binge right now. To the point that I’m worried that I’ve disrupted the reading of my co-worker.

Last night was another successful night in the Home Cooking Experiment. I didn’t really do much cooking, but I was able to defeat my craving for shawarma and go with a McCain Rising Crust Pizza. I did add some garlic seasoning and black pepper and a heap of cheese on top before I tossed it in the oven though. Pictures soon to come to Twitter and Facebook.

The good people at Monster Energy Drinks stopped by the store today and dropped off a sample tall boy for each of us. I haven’t cracked into mine yet, but I think it will give me something to sip at for the afternoon.

I have very disappointed in the Sedin twins, Sidney Crosby and Ilya Kovalchuk after yesterday’s hockey action. Between the 4 of them only Sid had 1 single point for my pool.

I have finished the leg work for part 1 of E-ve’s Valentine’s Day surprise. Soon it will be ready to hand over to her in a very cute offering of my love.

Also soon is my birthday. Mark your calendars.

While reading Kevin Smith’s Boring Ass Life last night I started missing Daddy Z as Mr. Smith talked about his last night with his pops and offered the eulogy that he gave. I never thought that Kevin Smith would make me feel like I was going to cry, but he came close.

I almost rocked my suspenders at work today but I was wearing the wrong pants.

I’m thinking about a haircut and a shave but I’m worried that my face will look 17 and my temples will look 40. Le sigh.

I’m missing a lot of sports action right now because the TV at work still isn’t working. Boo.

I’ve been cleaning and organizing at the apartment pretty steadily over the last week or so, and it’s starting to look pretty good. I have to come up with a few ideas to keep things a little more contained, but they’ll come soon enough I think.

The youngest brother Z turns 22 tomorrow. I can’t believe that he’s that grown up now. It boggles my mind.

I think that’s all for now mes amis. With the TV out today and no customers as of yet be prepared for some Twitter and Facebook action.

Happy snacking. Go Colts.

Saturday Morning Musings, Batman And Boreanaz Edition

Good morning, good morning everyone.

Happy Saturday to you all. I hope that you find it relaxing if you have the day off and prosperous if you don’t.

Big ups to my E-ve who is the awesome. It’s back to work on her Valentine’s Day surprise part 1 for me today. I’m excited to have it put together and finished and try to keep the secret for another week. Word on the street is that her Zucchini cupcakes with 7 minute icing are the bees knees. Job well done!

Sad news in Toronto today as hockey fans send their condolences to the Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke and his family after the passing of his son Brendan. By all accounts Brendan was a stand-up guy and an amazing individual whose story of coming out of the closet in the hockey world has the chance to break down walls and the homophobic stereotype of the game.

We are only 1 day away from Super Bowl Sunday people. Get your food and drink ready for the big game and whatever festivities you may be planning. I have a last minute phone call to make today to see if Heath wants to or can come over for the game and some eats, and then either way I have to start thinking about my menu. As it stands I think it’s going to be chicken fingers, taquitos and maybe some nachos. There’s also a little beer in the fridge to wash down such junky foods.

It also means a Super Bowl edition of the Home Cooking Experiment. So far it has gone quite well and I’ve even started to throw some pictures up on Twitter and on the Wally Z’s Morning Musings page on Facebook. You can see pictures of E-ve’s birthday cake, my Tomato tuna casserole and breakfast for dinner with eggs, beans, cheese and toast. Soon to be added will be last night’s chicken and veggies that I put together in the oven. It didn’t make as much as I thought it would, but it was tasty.

I’m excited for this afternoon’s Montreal vs. Pittsburgh hockey game. Puck drop is scheduled for 2pm and I’m hoping that we’ll be able to find a feed on the computer here at work so that I can cheer on mes boys.

I’m rocking my Batman belt buckle at work today. It makes me feel like a little bit of a rebel while I wear my shirt and tie and sweater vest. Kind of like David Boreanaz in Bones. I need to get me some more fun socks though so that I can really pull it off.

E-ve is teasing me that she knows what my cake and dinner are shaping up to be for my birthday. She says that they are a surprise and that I’ll have to wait. It’s 2 weeks away and I’m not good at waiting. We’ll see how this goes. Stay tuned for further developments.

I think I’ve gone on enough for one day. I’ve got a surprise to work on and some work related junk to do as well.

Have a great day ladies and gents.

Q: Who's thinking about what kind of job he might be interested in? A: This guy.

Thursday Morning Musings, Still Buzzing Edition

Good morning y'all.

Here's hoping that you're all over the hump comfortably and moving forward with your week.
Big ups to E-ve on a day off today. Unless she picks up a shift at the restaurant.

Yesterday was an exciting exciting day in the life of Wally and E-ve. We saw a Raptor and a hero and Canada's dad.

Breakfast started the days festivities as we rocked some fantastic crepes. Mine with a western omelete inside and some fruit and whole wheat toast to go with. And E-ve's rolled up into a ham and eggs and cheese and grilled like a panini. Good food for sure, fresh coffee as a bonus. And Reggie Evans walked in the restaurant to top it all off. If you don't know who Reggie is I won't hold it against you. He is one of the nine new Raptors that were brought in this season, but he hasn't played since the pre-season. He is a large dude, with a kinda scary lookin thing going on. But I was impressed and nonetheless. Maybe even more so.

The afternoon was exciting thanks to a quickly put together plan to see one of my pop-culture heroes and the man he calls Canada's dad. Kevin Smith was in town to help promote the 4th annual Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament. The charity events raises funds for the CNIB and local gigs as well. And this year's goal, as put forth by Mr. Smith, is to break the record of 192 teams registered and playing in a Street Hockey tourny.

E-ve was a big fan of the cuteness of Mr. Walter Gretzky through out the day. He is a pretty adorable old man, I'll give him that.

Excitement continued with Wheel of Fortune as we watched from the comfort of the apt. and I came up with the answer in the bonus round. The catagory was Phrase and after the RSTLNE were up it looked a little something like this: _ _ _ _ _ N E / T _ _ T/ I'll give the answer later.

After E-ve made her way home to Wii fit it up and grab some dinner I chit chatted with Jake and Romeo about the day's events and got my last piece of exciting news for the day. Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths will be released on February 23rd. It's the latest in the line of DC animated features and will blow your mind if you're not familiar with the story lines that can come up with the DC Universe. There's a good Lex Luther and a set of bad guys that mirror the Justice League. I've already watched the trailer on Youtube and I think that this one could be good.

Habs game tonight against the long time rival Boston Bruins. The Habs need wins in a big bad way to stay in the play-off picture while they try to get healthy.

Last night was another dinner made at home. I think that I'm soon going to put a piece together that showcases all the good (and bad) stuff that I've made instead of scarfing down cheeseburgers and shawarma. But I do miss the shawarma.

Linked Romeo's latest blog entry on the Twitter feed last night. He's getting to be a regular. I like it.
The answer to Wheel of Fortune was IMAGINE THAT.

I think that's all for now mes amis. Tomorrow is another day off, so be jealous if you want to be. Maybe I'll go celeb hunting again.

Wednesday Morning Musings, High Fives And Big Smiles Edition

Hey there boys and girlies.

Happy Wednesday, here's hoping that you're all bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Big lovin' to E-ve this morning. She's starting to ask questions about part 1 of her V-Day surprise. I'm not answering though. I want to, cause I wanna see her smile, but I'm gonna do my best to save the surprise.

High fives to Jake who is working today. His old routine of mid-week weekends is over and I think he's going to dig it.

Best wishes to E-ve's mom today. She's the reason that there's an E-ve, so she's cool beans in my books.

I'm trying to write this on my BB while the hockey highlights are on my TV. It's a tough gig.

Sports notes from last night...

- Habs win against the visiting Canucks. It was a big win for the team and the fans because it was the first game without Cammalleri.

- Leafs win at home versus the Devils. J-S Giguere recorded a 3-0 shut out in his first start for the Buds.

- Raptors laid an egg in Indy. Bosh scored 35 and Barney scored 34 and we lost by 15. End of win streak. But we get the 4-43 Nets tonight. So cross your fingers.

I just saw on the news ticker that a 74 year old woman from Hamilton has been arrested on an old drug charge. If it's your mum or grandma make sure you get her to share some of those old stories.

I have no idea why my mind is so blank this morning. It's like a blank slate.

Big smile on my face as I just got off the phone with E-ve and she's going to meet me downtown for some awesome hangout time. I'm happy.

I think I'm gonna cut it off here my friends. Like a good pair of denim shorts, not too short and not too long.

Tuesday Morning Musings, Part 1 And The Quest For 6 Edition

Good day to you my fine furry friends! And to you who aren't so furry as well.

Big ups to my E-ve. I've started part 1 of her Valentine's Day package. I'm not sure how many parts there will be, but I'm liking the idea for this one.

I'm excited to have tomorrow off instead of working. It's against normal routine. And then Thursday I'm at a different store for a short shift before going home and having Friday off as well.

The Raptors go for their 6th straight win tonight in Indiana. I've already started getting messages from friends that are full of excitement for the team. I hope that they don't disappoint.

Tonight is also the first time that the new look Maple Leafs will take the ice. Fans in Toronto hope that they fare better than the new look Flames did last night against the Flyers.

We're watching a pretty terrible Hulk animated movie. I hope it's over soon.

Here's hoping that day 2 at the new place is going well for Jake.

And I'm hoping that Romeo is starting to become mobile again. And wish him luck on the quitting smoking campaign.

I can feel my stomach starting to rumble. I'm not sure if I want to eat or just get more coffee though.

I wrote a birthday wish list last night and posted it on the Long Form Musings. Have a look if you like.

The Oscar nominations were handed out this morning. I haven't checked the list yet but I'm sure there will be some internet buzz if you look hard enough.

Thanks to everyone that is awesome.

And as per usual, if you're only here this one day a week, see you next Tuesday.

Monday Morning Musings, Welcome To February Quick Fire Edition

Good morning y'all.

Welcome to your new work week.

I'm on the BB so I think we'll go with an old fashioned quick fire edition.

Big ups to E-ve for being cool beans. Here's hoping for a good, long, restful day.

Best wishes to Mrs. E-ve's mom today as she's under the weather this morning.

Go team me as I've already cruised through a crossword and a half this morning.

Big smiles from me after a Raptors win last night. That makes 5 in a row and there are more winnable games coming up on the schedule.

Wishes for quick healing go to Hedu Turkoglu as he took a shot to the face and now has a non-displaced fracture of his orbital bone. There are rumours that the team is going to try to get him to wear a mask and play but no official word yet.

E-ve is excited about the moves made by the Maple Leafs yesterday if for no other reason than she now has an excuse to say Phaneuf more often.

I'm waiting on more news from the Habs regarding Mike Cammalleri and his knee. I'm hoping for good news. Cross your fingers for me.

More serious thoughts of job hunting are on my mind.

Congrats to the Zac Brown Band after they won the Best New Artist Award at the Grammy's last night. I really do dig on those guys. And their Chicken Fried.

I watched Chuck last night on City TV... Things are gonna get dicey for my hero pretty soon.

The show also keeps breaking my heart just a little bit with the Sarah and Chuck lines.

I think that's about it for me today ladies and gentlemen. Enjoy your day as much as you can.
