Friday the 13th Musings

Happy, scariest day on the early year calendar everyone. It’s Friday the 13th and I’m scared, nervous and worried. It happens every time one of these things pops up.

You see, I’m a bit of a superstitious guy, I like order, routine and I believe that little things that may seem very insignificant can make or break a day. When I was an athlete I was as superstitious as anyone. Same order of getting dressed, same routine getting ready to hit, same warm-up before every game, and if anything went wrong it was a lot to overcome.

It’s the same in my every day life. I catch myself sometimes walking down the street and purposely avoiding the cracks in the sidewalk only because I realize that I’ve missed them on my last few steps. On the flip side I catch myself stepping on every crack because I’ve noticed that I’ve been doing it. My stuff goes in my pockets the same way every day, same order, same things, same pockets. It goes on and on and on, some things I don’t even realize as they are happening, some I won’t admit on this page.

I’m scared of black cats crossing my path, walking under ladders, and all things generally unlucky.

As for daily news: My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the passengers and crew who have died in the airplane crash in upstate New York. I’m not trying to start a daily thoughts and prayers section, but things just keep popping up.

It’s also Valentine’s Day tomorrow, so all of you love birds out there remember to stop and get all the things that your significant other is fond of; Chocolate, Wine, Flowers, Lingerie, Fried Chicken, Beer, etc. Take a look at Awesome’s blog linked to your left for some more ideas and tips.

The weather network says that it’s supposed to be a nice weekend, so maybe take your better half for a nice walk, hold hands, swing arms and enjoy the sunshine on your faces. Tip: A stop at a coffee shop is a good way to warm up for a few minutes and steal a kiss without it being cold on your face.

Romantic movies to watch with the one ya love: Serendipity, 50 First Dates, Sleeping Beauty (special anniversary edition), 27 Dresses, Clerks II, Fever Pitch, Wedding Singer, etc.

And remember that it really is the thought that counts. If you have the money to spend on nice things, feel free to do so. If you don’t have as much as you’d like, make the extra effort. Decorate, get candles, pretty little extras, set the mood, clean-up the place a little. Anything that you can do will go a long way to making it a good experience for everyone involved.

So, with that said, go get ‘em folks. Make it a day that everyone will smile about and look back on fondly. Bon chance.
