Good morning folks. Sorry that I’ve been away for a while. I was on a little sabbatical, or mini-vaca, what ever you want to call it.
Lots happened over the weekend. The much anticipated Hockey Day in Canada went down on Saturday. With Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary winning the all Canadian match-ups. Vancouver and Calgary needed shoot-outs to get their 2 points which made things a little more exciting if nothing else.
In random other news type stuff, TMZ.com is reporting that it paid $62,500 for the pictures of a battered Rihanna after her incident with Chris Brown the night before the Grammys. I just took a look at the picture and it’s tasteless and awful, so I will not be linking to it today. Feel free to go take a look yourself if you’d like.
The Oscars were fantastic and I was very impressed with Hugh Jackman and the song and dance routines. Slumdog Millionaire was a fantastic story as a winner. Sean Penn was political (maybe overly) with his “you commie, homo loving son of a guns” comment. I do agree with him that Prop 8 is ridiculous and I hope that someday we will see equal rights in all states and provinces. Fingers crossed.
I also came into a few new Green Arrow comics this weekend. Yay! They are fantastic. I’ve also decided that if I ever get to be in the crowd for a Kevin Smith Q&A I’m going to ask why the Green Arrow doesn’t get any love. I get that he doesn’t have super powers, he’s not an alien, he’s a little brash, overly sexual, and he was dead for a while. But I like him.
The countdown is now on for Watchmen. Movie opens March 6th, today is February 24th. 11 more sleeps until opening night. And that does not take into account the fact that somewhere there will be midnight screenings which would bring the number of sleeps down to 10. Get ready people, it’s going to be huge!
United States President Obama will be addressing Congress tonight live at 9pm on CNN. CNN.com reports that he will lay out a “sober assessment, hopeful future”. One big rumour coming out of all the government talk and bail-outs and auto industry is that General Motors and Chrysler will be forced into a merger. Is it good? Is it bad? I don’t know. I know I’m not qualified to figure out what they should do.
Heroes was good last night. It was a little dry, so I won’t get into review details. But there was story that I was able to follow, and that has been missing from this season a little. Good job NBC.
That’s all for this morning my friends. Get back to work.
