Wednesday Morning Musings and Big Zombie News

We start the day with geek news. I was called out on my geekdom last night so I was going to go geek free today. But I couldn’t help it after finding this next thing while I was surfing the sports pages.

From the pages of ESPN the Magazine and writer Rick Paulas, I am pleased to pass on this little tidbit of information. “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, a parody of the classic Jane Austen novel by Seth Grahame-Smith that features Elizabeth Bennet and her gentlemen suitor Mr. Darcy fighting a zombie hoard, is close to being optioned even before the actual book hits stores.”

I did some checking myself after stumbling across this info and have found the book for pre-order online. All signs point to an April 15th, 2009 release of the novel. As of now, all of the undead fan boards say that Hollywood studios are currently in a bidding war for the rights to the novel. Keep your eyes peeled folks, this could be fun.

I have to stop now and make an admission. I am currently jealous of two friends. One is in Paris and will be away this weekend instead of watching Hockey Day in Canada with me. The other was in Spain the last I heard. Jerks, both of them.

It’s Wednesday, feels like Tuesday, and really it’s my Thursday because I’m taking Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday off. Did you catch all of that? If you did, good for you.

As I mentioned ever so briefly, Hockey Day in Canada will soon be upon us. I plan on going to a local Sports Bar for at least game 1, Montreal vs. Ottawa and perhaps game 2, Toronto vs. Vancouver (but I doubt it for game 2) Puck drops at 3pm with festivities and coverage starting on CBC at noon EST.

I hope that everyone can find a way to enjoy some good old fashioned Canadiana this weekend.

The only questions left now are what to wear and what to eat and drink. I can’t decide whether I want to dress up a little and be classy or if I want wear my Montreal Canadiens gear and risk getting beaten in a Toronto Sports Bar. As far as the eating and drinking goes, I have a feeling that a sample platter would be a good idea. Maybe some chicken wings will be in order as well. And when it comes to drinks, I have to lean toward draught beer in pitcher form. What other options are there really?

I think that’s it for today peeps. Be careful commuting as The Weather Network says that things could get messy later.
