Good morning and welcome to your Saturday.
This just in, apparently my microwave went crazy… this story doesn’t have a link or anything.
It’s Saturday which means Hockey Night in Canada. Nothing really exceptional to mention other than Mes Canadiens need a win (but aren’t playing) and Martin Gerber will be looking for his second straight win as a Leaf while he tries to stick it to the Ottawa Senators for giving up on him.
World Baseball Classic action kicks off in Toronto today as Team Canada hosts Team USA at the Rogers Centre. Team Italy and Team Venezuela also go at it today in round one play.
Usain Bolt has confirmed that he will run in Toronto on June 11th of this year at Varsity Stadium at the University of Toronto. The Fastest Man Alive will be here for a reported cheque of $250,000. Not bad for 100 metres and 10 seconds or so of work.
In the non sporting world, remember to turn your clocks forward this evening before bed so that you’re on time for anything that you are supposed to be doing tomorrow.
Toronto Mayor David Miller really does love Twitter as I mentioned a few days ago. Yesterday was Toronto’s 175th birthday and the mayor was all over his Twitter feed. Turns out that by his own admission he wasn’t elected based on his singing ability.
Also in the political vein Ontario PC leader John Tory has announced that he will keep his word and step down as leader after losing his by-election race in Haliburton – Kawartha Lakes – Brock. Dude says that he’ll step down for an interim leader and the party will hold a leadership convention in June.
The Provincial NDP will also have a new leader as early as today. Delegates are in Hamilton to choose a new leader. There are 4 candidates vying for the position.
Taylor Swift has been number 1 on The Billboard 200 for 10 weeks in a row. Honestly, I wasn’t going to write about her today, but there was the story, right in front of me.
How does a Prince woo a woman? The answer could soon be yours for the right price. Six love letters that Prince Charles wrote between 1970 and 1980 to a British born chick that was living in Montreal at the time will go on the block for some collector to scoop up. Why, I’m not sure. But a fool and his money are easily parted.
In, yes I am a geek news, there’s a new book out that I think I may really have to get my hands on. Paul Zehr works as a Researcher at the University of Victoria and has written a book called Becoming Batman: The Possibility of a Superhero. I found the story at theglobeandmail.com and it will be in Today’s links.
