Good Morning ladies and gentlemen.
I hope that everyone is having a good day thus far and will continue to do so.
I’m a little stressed and thusly I will probably be firing off a short post.
The one thing I really did want to write about quickly is dads. There are ton of great dads in the world, and I know that it’s a subjective measuring stick to each child with one… but I believe that there are a bunch of you guys out there. And to you I want to say thank you.
The line of thought came about as I was reading part of My Boring-Ass Life by the talented Mr. Smith. I’m at the part right now where he is recounting the passing of his father. There’s a great story about the family being able to get together for a nice dinner for the first time in too long and then the sudden death of Mr. Smith the patriarch. What follows is the eulogy that Kevin Smith shared at his dad’s funeral. It’s a sweet and heart wrenching thing that made me miss my dad and made me sad that I missed his BBQ on Sunday. It also made me thankful for the good times that we’ve shared over the years. I’m also thankful for my step-dad. We had our bumpy times, but now things are pretty awesome. I love them both.
The Kevin Smith eulogy also reminded me of a famous Canadian eulogy from a few years ago. When Prime-Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau died in 2000 there was a state funeral and a lot of grieving around the country. But what I’ll remember most is the way that his son Justin spoke at the funeral. The speech was sweet, loving and memorable. I was 18 at the time and it shook me completely. I absolutely dread the day that I may have to make a speech like that. We’ve come close, too close for comfort.
I do have a favourite memory for each of my dad’s and they both make me smile. One happened when I was a little boy at a baseball tournament. The other happened as an adult at the kitchen table with a bottle of Rum and a bottle of Pepsi. They aren’t even remotely similar, but I love them both.
I think that’s enough of the weepy stuff for now. Let’s move on.
Fingers crossed for a relaxed and restful day for E-ve today. Days off are few and far between and the ability to kick back is far overdue.
I talked to Mommy Z on the phone for a few minutes last night. It’s cool to be able to just chat with her these days. I like it a lot.
I also watched WWE Monday Night Raw last night, almost in its entirety for the first time in a long, long while. I don’t want to take away from any of the die-hard wrestling bloggers, but I’ll share a little bit. It was Mr. McMahon’s birthday so DX (Triple H and The Heartbreak Kid) had a birthday celebration for him in the ring complete with showgirls and Elvis (the show was in Las Vegas) but they were interrupted by Legacy. Their tussle resulted in a main event match made with Legacy facing off against DX feat. Vincent Kennedy McMahon. The best part was Mr. McMahon saying my favourite line in all of wrestling “If you ain’t down with that we’ve just got two words for ya…” and he let the crowd finish the quote.
I just got an email that is supposed to explain the money in my bank account, but it does a terrible job of it. Le sigh.
This post became a whole lot longer than I thought it was going to be.
I have to get back to work and trying to figure it out what else is going to happen today.
Wish me luck… and as always, if this is the only day that you stop in… See you next Tuesday!
Like wham!
