Tuesday Morning Musings - Musical Day

Good morning mes amis.

I hope that you all survived Monday unscathed and are now rocking Tuesday.

I'm listening to a lot of musical tracks today. It seems to be a happy place today.

If you have suggestions fire them to me on Twitter @WallyZ

Bug ups to the Blue Jays and Shaun Marcum on a great game last night in Oakland that I fell asleep during.

Maybe tonight I'll nap and stay up for the game.

It's a glorious day weather wise here in the big smoke. The humidity is almost nonexistent and the sun is out. I lurve it.

I hope that you're all well. And join me in sending positive thoughts out to all the ones I care about it. E-ve, Jake, Romeo, Heath, Julia and all of you.

Have a great day kids.

And in case this is the only day you stop by, see you next Tuesday.

Saturday Morning Musings, 'Melo Broke My Heart Edition

Hi kids.

Happy Saturday, welcome to the weekend, blah blah blah. But seriously, I hope you have a great day all around.

Big ups to E-ve who was up late as well last night. I hope her sleep has been restful. Last night was a slow night at the restaurant but with UFC and Hockey Night in Canada she could be busier tonight. Tons of love and good luck to you my E-ve.

If you're going anywhere to watch hockey and the fights, please remember not to be a jack-ass. Smiles and please and thank you will make everything go super smooth.

Also be prepared for the lights to dim as tonight does bring Earth Hour with it. I've said my piece about Earth Hour before, but I do see it as a good educational tool. So, at 8:30 EST tonight be ready to turn the lights off, unplug electronics that aren't in use, etc. and be a part of the solution.

So, Heath and I went to the Raptors game last night. And Carmelo Anthony broke my heart. Not in the 50 point blow out kinda way that we were prepared for, but with a last second buzzer beater to give the Nuggets a 1 point win. The Raptors fought hard and rebounded quite well but made little mistakes in the end that cost them the game. My thumbs are up to Sonny Weems and Andrea Bargnani and down to Jarrett Jack's decisions in the paint and the butter fingers of everyone in the last minute.

I'll also add that the spinach dip and nachos at Casey's were a great pre-game meal. And the beer wasn't bad either.

Romeo and I tossed around some quick "how to" info yesterday about podcasting. It looks like it'll be easy enough. I won't be assisting much from my BB other than being on speaker with them, but I think Romeo and Jake can figure it out.

I heart Google.

And Batman.

I think that's all for me today friends. You guys are the bestest.

Friday Morning Musings, Spacek On Booth, Messy But Legal Edition

Howdy kids.

I'm a sleepy boy but I'm gonna get something pounded out here.

Big lovin' to E-ve. We had a great date and hang-out on Wednesday that melted into Thursday. Dinner worked well, beer was a tasty treat, we made fun of each other just enough to make sure it was funny and even snuck a nap in there. Great times had by all.

Tally whoa!

Also, huge thank you to E-ve for supplying me with cold meds yesterday morning. They worked great and I was silly not to get more when I was out.

She even rocked some Veronica Mars with me, much to my delight.

Side note: high fives to @residentmoron for having great taste in TV shows and loving Veronica Mars as well.

Big time win for the Habs last night against the Panthers. It was much needed as the games remaining tick down and the race for the play-offs heats up.

Scary moment in the game as Jaro Spacek hit Florida's David Booth hard as he crossed the blue line. Booth had his head down and met Spacek's shoulder in a violent, physical, big league body check. However, whereas most hits in the NHL end with the player getting up and skating away, this one didn't. David Booth lay on the ice before being helped to the dressing room. The probable reason is that Booth suffered a severe concussion earlier this season after a late, blind side head shot delivered by Mike Richards of the Flyers. In fact, that hit was one of the main reasons that the new blind side/ back pressure, head shot rule has been rushed into the NHL rule book. Once anyone has suffered a concussion it becomes much easier for them to suffer subsequent concussions and that may have been the case with David Booth last night. He was taken to a Montreal hospital for tests and surveillance but was said to be coherent and responsive. All of my best wishes go out to David Booth and his family as he recovers from last night's hit.

And a note to anyone on a witch hunt for someone to punish under the new rule, Jaro Spacek will not be the first to be suspended. He did not break that rule. It was a good, strong, clean hockey check that had an unfortunate outcome. That is all.

Happy Friday to all of you by the way. How could I forget.

And happy Friday especially to Heath and I as we have tickets to see the Raptors play (get slaughtered by) the Nuggets. We're hoping for either a big Raptors win, which is much needed, or a 50 point night from Carmelo Anthony.

I've done a whole pile of writing in the last few days. It's felt good. I'm enjoying it. And there's some good stuff coming from it I think.

If you caught my link to Romeo's blog the other day you saw his idea for a podcast with Jake and I. It's an interesting idea that I'm sure comes from the laughs Romeo gets from Kevin Smith's SModcast and if it comes to pass I promise to warn you about language and subject matter.

I can feel my stomach grumbling which means I should either get some cereal or a granola bar I suppose.

For those of you in Toronto be prepared for lots of news moving forward with regards to the TTC's decision to put up safety barriers at subway stations. There were a reported 18 suicide attempts on subway platforms last year and the support for the barriers has been overwhelming, but funding still needs to be found.

I think that's all for today friends. I hope that today is good, tonight is great and the weekend in better.

Friday Morning Musings, Day 11 Edition

Hey there kids!

Happy freakin' Friday.

Big lovin' to E-ve who had a busy night yesterday. Seeing Urinetown on openning night, hitting a karaoke bar with Romeo hosting and then stopping in at our fav gay bar will make anyone sleepy. Which is why I'm assuming she's not yet replied to my good morning sms. Big X's and O's to you my E-ve.

High fives to Jake after openning night. I'm sure that tonight will be great too. And every show that follows.

March Madness has been especially mad so far. Experts and fans alike are saying that yesterday may have been the best 1st day of the tournament ever. If you've never heard of a March Madness Widow I suggest you google it. Might save your relationship.

Today is my first day off since a week ago Monday. I slept in. It was awesome. And now I'm lounging with the NCAA's on TV. Heck yes.

Baseball season just keeps getting closer. And that makes me a happy and excited boy. I'm not sure what my first game at the ballpark will be this year, but I'm hoping it's in April.

Also, Heath and I have a date to hit the Raptors game next Friday. That excites me.

It looks like the sun is shining through my blinds. Maybe I'll go out later to run some errands and see how it is for reals.

Spring is just around the corner and then comes summer and for Canadians that's a wonderful thing. Because we're so used to cold and harsh winters (which admittedly we didn't have this year) we usually go a little crazy in the summer. You'll see people that BBQ every day, wear flip flops in the rain, rock their tan lines and sunburns and just enjoy the heck out of it. Bring it on I say.

Big ups to The Score Television Network for their NCAA coverage. Split screens and fewer commercials and 13ish hours a day is hardcore.

It feels like forever since the Habs played. But tomorrow night they get a pretty hot Maple Leafs team in what should be a pretty good game.

Didn't eat pizza last night. Maybe today. Maybe not. Maybe salad. Maybe not.

Time to check out for now mes amis. There's just too much going on to concentrate.

Have a groovy Friday and a great weekend.

Sunday Morning Musings, All Saints And Mother's Day Edition

Good Sunday dear friends.

Big thanks and lovin’ to E-ve for what was a great date night. We met in the rain, she had coffee in her hands and the rest, as they say, is history. We rocked some chicken skewers and jalapeno poppers and watched a double feature on the DVD player. Boondock Saints and Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day. There was a lot of shootin’ and a lot of killin’ and a lot of entertainment. Well done to everyone involved.

It wasn’t fun leaving to come to work this morning. Least favourite part of the whole thing.

Average night had in the hockey pool yesterday. Picked up 10 points. Which isn’t bad I guess. But I really need the San Jose Sharks and Canucks to keep filling the net this week. There are 7 games left to play between the 2 of them and I have 7 players committed to those 2 squads.

I hope that you’ve all remembered to turn your clocks ahead. I don’t want you missing important lunch dates and such.

Big ups to all the mothers in Ireland as it’s Mother’s Day today.

The first hockey game of the day starts in a few minutes. And I’m feeling like I’d like to have a day of writing and watching hockey, not serving customers. Don’t judge me.

Happy Birthday to super-blogger Kelly Diels. I won’t tell you her age because I don’t know and it’s none of my business.

Jesse McCartney is far more talented than he is given credit for.

Jake is also a talented dude and hopes are that the play is coming together as curtain gets closer.

Romeo has some talent, can’t deny that… but he needs to wear pants.

And Heath has been rocking his camera with talent something fierce lately. And I like it.

Have a great day kids. You all deserve it.

Just remember that everyone else deserves it too, so play nice.

Monday Morning Musings, A Golden Family Day Edition

Good morning world.

Happy Family Day to all of my friends in Ontario.

Big lovin' to E-ve today. We didn't get to spend much time together yesterday but I am happy to report that I didn't ruin the surprise of bringing her flowers at work. I was close, almost told her I was coming to see her at the restaurant, but I managed not to eff it up.

I was also a lucky boy as All You Can Eat Wings was available at my seat at the bar. I rocked a pound of Guinness BBQ, a pound of Honey Garlic and a pound of Mild wings to go with my iced tea. And then topped it off with a cupcake that E-ve made and brought to work for her for co-workers.

I also got to see Kristina Groves win her Bronze medal in the 3000 metre long track speed skating finals before I made my way home.

And boy am I glad I came home when I did. Ladies and gentlemen, it's not fancy or exotic, but years from now I will remember that I was at home in my tiny apartment when Alexandre Bilodeau won the first Gold medal for Canada in Canada.

Bilodeau was amazing in his final run in the Moguls and made a nation proud and almost made me cry when the final score was announced and he was the winner. Twitter exploded with response for this amazing young man. If you haven't heard his story go to www.ctvolympics.ca and look for his info. He is a truly great man first and athlete and now hero after that.

Excited that Heath and I have plans to hang out in pre-birthday styles today. Just awaiting a call.

Thinking I should get me some breakfast here soon. Choices include granola bars, cereal, slice of huge cookie, eggs, trail mix, etc.

I think that's all for today kids. My brain is blanking with Olympic coverage on the TV and no food in my belly.

Have a great day.

Friday Morning Musings, Reggie Reggie And A Big Cookie Edition

Hey there friends.

It's Friday and we all know what that means... Yesterday was Thursday.

And a great Thursday it was. E-ve and I had a wonderful day of hanging out and eating and grocery shopping and walking and Booster Juicing and napping and Kevin Smith watching from morning til night.

Wednesday night E-ve actually came over to start the date and rocked a great dinner for us. 3 courses including Mussels, salad and 5 cheese medalians with a Bolognaise sauce. Mmm.

Wednesday night also saw the Habs break up the Capitals winning streak. The Raptors beat Philly and the much anticipated return of Reggie Evans to the Raptors line-up. The fans chanted his name as he prepared to enter the game for the first time this season.

Today it's back to work after some schedule changes but right now I'm mobile as I head to another store for a pick-up. Not a bad way to waste some time.

I'm getting quite excited as my bday draws near and I get to spend time with E-ve and Jake and Romeo and Heath all at the same time. All the while being spoiled by my favourite Auntie Z.

Today is of course the first day of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The first event goes on the ski hills this afternoon and the Opening Ceremonies will officially kick things off tonight.

Good luck to all of the Team Canada athletes as they go for gold.

Last night I popped in the DVD of the 2002 mens hockey gold medal game from Salt Lake City to get myself ready for the action. And even though I fell asleep mid-way through the 2nd period I'm pretty sure that Canada won.

The new TV is being set up at work right now, so there will be Olympic action available as well as all the other action that the sporting world has to offer. I'm happy.

I think that's about a wrap for now my friends.

I'll close with some awesome news. E-ve very much seemed to like part 1 of her Valentine's Day surprise which made me very happy. And E-ve herself busted out with the surprising by baking me a huge chocolate cookie with a big icing I Love You written on top. The picture is on Twitter and will soon make its way to Facebook. I'm a lucky guy folks.

Have a great Friday and a fantastic weekend.

Monday Morning Musings, Post Super Bowl Edition

Good day y'all.

Congratulations to Saints fans on the Super Bowl win. I'll admit that I made a poor pick yesterday.

Big lovin' to E-ve today. She's pretty awesome even though she also made a poor Super Bowl pick.
I finished both parts 1 and 2 of E-ve's Valentine's Day surprises yesterday and emailed part 2 to her. I know she's getting them out of order, but I think she's okay with it.

Since last night was the Super Bowl it was a junk food edition of the Home Cooking Experiment. I threw some left over McCain pizza in the fridge with a fresh piece of cheese on each slice and then fired some taquitos in a tin pan as well. To appease E-ve and feel like a grown up I chopped up some onion, peppers and baby carrots to go with the meal. And to my surprise the veggies were good.

Yesterday also saw the Raptors win another game at home. Hedu wear a mask and come back from his orbital bone break to contribute nicely.

I don't wanna talk about the Habs game.

High fives to Heath and Jake and Romeo, I can't wait to see them.

Was told yesterday that my celebrity doppleganger should be Jason Schwartzman. Not sure how to take that. I'd rather Dave Grohl.

I think that's all for today folks.

Have a great day.

Sunday Morning Musings, It's Still Morning On The West Coast Edition

Hey there my friends.

Happy Sunday. I hope that you’re all relaxed and happy and rested and such.

Big love to E-ve who is battling a little “morning after” syndrome before she starts working the lunch shift. If you’re in her section today please try to keep the noise down as you enjoy your lunch and remember to tip big and smile lots.

And big smiles for E-ve as her Maple Leafs look like they just shook things up like crazy. The Buds have picked up former EA Sports cover boy Dion Phaneuf from the Flames. There are 2 other players coming to Toronto with the big hitting defenseman, forward Fredrik Sjostrom and forward Keith Aulie. The Leafs didn’t steal the 3 players though. Leaf fans will be saying their goodbyes to forwards Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman and Jamal Mayers and defenseman Ian White.

A 2nd report says that Toronto is also super close to pulling the trigger on a goaltending trade with the Anaheim Ducks. The Maple Leafs, who haven’t had a top flight goalie in a long time would welcome 2002-03 Conn Smythe Trophy winner J.S. Giguere from the Ducks and would finally stop the bleeding that has come along with the Vesa Toskala experiment. This trade hangs on approval from Giguere as he has a no-trade clause in his contract.

Last night was another at home adventure in the kitchen. Skipping lunch left me with a huge hunger. So my pasta, tuna, veggie casserole was a nice end to the day. The spinach laced tomato sauce was quite tasty and the grated cheese on top just before it went in the oven was a great touch. Go team me.

Tonight is Grammy night. I hope that you’re all ready for lots of singing and dancing and pretty dresses and maybe a scandal or two. I am.

Side note: Dear internet, I think that I would like new books for my birthday.

High fives to Jake and Romeo who I am sure did a great job watching the twins yesterday.

Word is that the J.S Giguere trade is done with Toskala and forward Jason Blake going to Anaheim.

The Raptors start a home and home series with the Indiana Pacers tonight at the ACC. The home town boys are rolling as of late. We are now 3 games over .500 and on a 4 game win streak. These 2 games are winnable for the Raps and much needed in the standings. Go Raps Go.

iTunes radio is a great way to get some sound into the store with the TV broken. Thank goodness for the internet.

I tweeted this yesterday, but I really meant to get it in the blog, January 29th was the 1st anniversary of the New Morning Musings. I would like to thank everyone that has stopped by, even once to read and support my rambling. And to E-ve and Jake and Romeo and Heath and Julia special thanks for being in the Muse more often than most.

I think that’s all for today mes amis.

From me and my Batman belt buckle to you and yours, have a great Sunday.

Wednesday Morning Musings, Wii Belong In This World Together Edition

Good day to you all.

I hope that the chilly weather hasn’t shocked your systems too badly.

It’s mid-week now, half way to Romeo’s weekend, the first day of Jake’s weekend and my Friday.

Big ups to E-ve and best wishes to her mom for a speedy recovery from her current bout of not feeling so great. She’s a trooper. And all kinds of love to E-ve for being a great daughter and care giver.

All kinds of luck and positive thoughts are being sent to the ACC tonight as the Raptors take on the Miami Heat and try to continue their climb up the Eastern Conference standings. I really believe that this is a play-off team. I don’t know if they can win in the play-offs, but I think that they can get there.

Police in Toronto have started a street crossing safety blitz in response to the multiple deaths in the first 3 weeks of the year. I never thought it would have to come to this, but people actually need to be told to watch for traffic.

PETA is proposing a robot stand-in for groundhogs for this Groundhog’s Day. I didn’t read the story because I think it’s a little ridiculous. If you want to see what they have to say it can be found at yahoo.ca

The story in the news right now is that South and North Korea exchanged fire near a sea border that is much contested. It can’t be good for the world that North Korea has their back up and is ready to fire any kind of weapon.

I watched the Habs play in Florida last night and had my heart broken in the 3rd period. The boys couldn’t hold a 1-0 lead in the game and lost 2-1 after a penalty shot and an even strength goal.

I have urges to play video games. And I don’t usually have those thoughts. Maybe I’ll clean the apartment so that E-ve will bring the Wii over.

There are still 6 hours left in the work day. This could be a long one.

I hope everyone in internet land has a good one.

Later my friends.

Friday Morning Musings, Cereal And Movies Edition

Hey there kiddies.

Welcome to Friday. The day most of you have been waiting for all week. I hope it's been great so far and keeps getting better.

Best wishes to E-ve for a good lunch shift after a crazy Wing Night at the restaurant yesterday.

Also, get well soon thoughts out to E-ve's mom. Healthy and happy is always the goal.

There were a ton of fights in the NHL last night. I don't know if there was something in the air or if the planets were aligned differently or something, but there was a lot of the rough stuff.

Hoping that Heath has a great weekend in Ottawa and gets some hang out time with Jake and Romeo and the gang. I hear he's staying with Romeo, I'm sure there will be cuddles.

I'm a wee bit emo. I'm sorry to everyone that's in that shadow. Hope it goes away soon.

Finished my Kevin Smith SModcast book yesterday. Lines were crossed, laughs were had, good times for everyone. When I get a computer I'll have hundreds of hours to download and listen to.

Thinking that I'm gonna have to crack into the cereal here in a few minutes. Food is your friend.

Trying to figure out what movies/ TV shows I'm gonna watch today. Ideas welcome.

"Keep on woking in the free world."

I think that's all for now mes amis. Have a great day and start your weekend right.

Monday Morning Musings, Pretty Snow And Brand Expansion Edition

Good morning all.

I'm mobile right now because the computers are in use.

Big ups to E-ve. I hope that sleep was better than I think. She is the awesome.

So, last night was 2 hours of Chuck. It was awesome too. I had been worried about changes now that Chuck has the Intersect 2.0 in his head. But I think they did it right. The romance, the story, the characters, the everything. I am excited to watch episode 3 tonight. And I have an itch to watch the first 2 hours again today. I'm a geek.

No longer mobile.

Last night also featured the highest scoring NFL play-off game in history. The Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals scored a combined 96 points in an overtime thriller. I didn’t even know who I was cheering for and I was caught up in the action and the back and forth style of play. I’m pretty sure that I could have played defense at points during the 4th quarter.

Yay to Romeo who is thinking about starting a new blog of his own. If he does we’ll be linking to it for sure.

And yay to my favourite Aunt and Romeo and Jake and E-ve and Heath who have all expressed desire to hang out for my birthday next month. You guys are the greatest.

It’s snowing lightly right now. It looks pretty even. And to top that, it’s not extremely cold. And I like that a lot.

I am starting to worry about all of the cold and snow storms that are taking random places hostage this winter. Hundreds of people in China have been forced from their homes because of snow storms that never come. Dozens were stranded over night in their cars on the highway in Germany because there was no way to travel the roads. And Miami is setting records with cold temperatures. I know it’s not Green Week, and I’m not scientist, but this is ridiculous. Dr. David Suzuki and Al Gore must be going nuts right now. Do you know how hard it must be for them not to go on every talk show and say I told you so.

Also, this whole Tim Hortons, donut for 49 cents thing is going to cause a lot of people to fail with their New Year’s Resolutions of losing weight.

We are rapidly approaching the 1 year anniversary of Wally Z’s New Morning Musings. And to celebrate I’ve launched a Wally Z page on Facebook. It can be found by searching for Wally Z’s Morning Musings. Tell your friends, start a trend, help expand my brand. And remember, if this works it will be because of you.

I think that’s it for now mes amis.

I hope that you have a groovy Monday.

That’s right, I said groovy.
