Friday Morning Musings, Happy Birthday Julia Edition

Happy Friday world!

First and foremost we send positive and calming thoughts to E-ve's tummy.

Secondly, we wish Julia a very happy birthday. The party is tonight and fingers are crossed for smiles, hugs, laughs and a good time for everyone.

Last night was an Entourage marathon that my body is still recovering from. I watched episodes 2-12 of season 5 and then because I don't know when to stop, I watched the first 3 episodes of season 6.

Side note: My body has mostly recovered. But my eyes have been blurry this morning while I've been out and about walking and such.

Molson Breweries sent me a text message today letting me know that Coors Light and Canadian cans and bottles are on sale. 20 for the price of 15. Happy long weekend Ontario!

This Banana Chocolate Vivanno smoothie is fantastic. Shh, don't tell anyone I'm that guy.

The weather is fantastic, the rain is nowhere to be seen and it feels like a summer day.

I'm sitting beside an urban gay meeting either his real estate agent or financial advisor. His ceiling is low to buy, I hope he's not looking for much. Best of luck to him!

Mommy Z called this morning to chat and catch up. She let me know about some exciting renovations that are coming up at the house. They are things that have been dreamed about and planned for a long time and I'm happy that they are going to be able to go through with them.

The Argo game is tomorrow. It'll be the first and hopefully not the last. It also means that I will have seen the Blue Jays, Raptors, Maple Leafs, Rock, TFC and Argos play home games in Toronto. Not bad for a small town kid that loves sports like crazy.

Side note: I've also seen WWE wrestling live in Toronto, but that was never really on the list.

Safe travel to both Jake and the Mrs. as they make their way west from Ottawa for a wedding this weekend.

I think that's everything for now. I hope that everyone has a great weekend. And if it's a long weekend for you, enjoy it but don't brag.

Thursday Morning Musings, Birthday Party Eve Edition

Good morning world.

Iraq, ABBA, war, raven, ham. These words mean absolutely nothing together except for the fact that they were the first 5 answers I got to today’s crossword puzzle. I’m still fighting writer’s block. I did a piece earlier for the MySpace blog in hopes of beating it. And while the words came pretty quickly there wasn’t a whole lot of substance or inspiration, except for when I was writing the blurb about E-ve.

In fact, when I was writing the piece about her I had to make myself not call her because I’m pretty sure she’s still sleeping. That’s what days off are for. Enjoy it my E-ve. Xoxo

We just watched the season 4 finale of Entourage here at the store, which means that I can start watching season 5 on TMN On Demand when I get home today. I can’t believe that I got hooked on a show that for so long I had no desire to watch at all. I know that I have an addictive personality. That isn’t news to anyone that knows me at all. Sometimes I forget though.

Side note: Speaking of addiction, I have been craving cigarettes like crazy this morning. I have no idea why.

Tomorrow is Julia’s birthday party. E-ve and I were talking about it again yesterday on the phone and agree that we are excited to go and help her celebrate her birthday. We have been told that the party will smaller than last year’s event. And that’s just fine with everyone that I have talked to. Which admittedly has only been E-ve, Julia and her boyfriend. I am excited also to see Julia’s family. They are kind and friendly and always make me feel at home.

Guess what, there is no rain in the forecast for the whole day!

I found DC minimates online yesterday. I want some. Jake told me to get them. The only problem is that I don’t have any space for awesome stuff like that. Hopefully there will be more space in the next place that is called home.

The MLB trade deadline is tomorrow afternoon and as of right now Roy Halladay is still a Blue Jay. The Phillies, who were rumoured to be the number 1 suitor of Doc went out and got another front line starter in Cleveland’s Cliff Lee. Good luck to the Phillies as they make a run towards repeating as World Series champs. Part of me is very happy that Roy is still ours, soon the deadline will pass and maybe then the fans will see how big this guy is to us. The appreciation shown in the last 3 weeks has been amazing and I can only hope that it stays that way if he is still in our uniform.

I scraped my thumb on the cupboard door this morning and while it doesn’t hurt, it is a pain in my ass. I tried a band-aid but it didn’t work because it’s right at the base of the thumb where things don’t wrap around well. I ditched the band-aid and went the white athletic tape like back in the old days. So far it’s working.

The day is going pretty well so far, it’s supposed to be a short day, only 8 hours, but there’s room for change in there of course, there always is.

Big ups to Jake and Romeo, no reason, but they deserve it.

I think that’s it for now. Enjoy the sunshine my friends, and stay thirsty.

Wednesday Morning Musings, Quick Fire Hits Edition

Good day web crawlers.

It’s a rainy friggin’ Wednesday in Toronto, with some dry time scheduled for later and then more rain coming soon. I hope that the dry time continues and the wet time dissipates.

The writer's block has been killing me for the last 36 hours or so we're going to go all quick fire today.

The countdown is on to 4:10pm eastern standard time. Roy Halladay is scheduled to start what could be his last start as a Blue Jay… again.

Here’s hoping that E-ve is able to get a hold of her friend while she’s in town for some hang out time. They always seem to have a good time together.

I miss Rock Band. I caught myself drumming with my fingers in the edge of the bed last night as I was listening to music before falling asleep.

If you want to make a trip on the railroad I suggest you book your tickets now. VIA Rail has extended its 60% off sale on tickets.

Jake’s happy and I’m jealous as his Ebay order has arrived. It’s got a whole load of Green Arrow stuff for the lair in the basement.

I’m in need of dress shirts and such for the working… the only problem is that I don’t like spending money on new ones and all that jazz.

I have high hopes for the Raptors this upcoming season. I’m not sure why I do now more than in the past, but I do. Good luck gentlemen!

I need to finish this thing up as I’m sure the manager is going to want to come back to the computer and play some online poker in a few minutes.

The time has come for the great apartment search of Summer 2009 to heat up.

Big ups to everyone on the Twitter, Myspace and following us here. We appreciate it a bunch.

Big ups to E-ve for being awesome. I hope that today turns into a much shorter work day than yesterday was. And I hope that the steak last night was well cooked and amazing.

Watched Hell’s Kitchen last night… I think it may be a show worth getting into this season. I’ve never followed it before. But what else is on TV on Tuesday nights in the summer?

Have a great hump day everyone.

Tuesday Morning Musings, TFC Tickets? Edition

Good AM my friends.

I hope that everyone is having a good day so far. It’s Tuesday, one day closer to Friday, but still far away.

Friday is Julia’s birthday party, and I’m excited. Saturday is the Argos game, and I’m also excited for that.

I was told yesterday that I shouldn’t hide behind a pen name. But you it worked for Mark Twain, so I figure it can work for me.

Entourage is on the computer again, and you know what, it’s getting pretty good, I need to sit down and watch some DVDs and actually pay attention.

Shaq was on WWE Raw last night, he looked in good shape, worked the crowd, and didn’t make a big fool of himself for the half hour or so that I watched.

Today is Green Lantern: First Flight release date. I hope that everyone who isn’t as lucky as me gets to rent, buy or have a friend that rents or buys the movie. I do feel lucky to have seen the flick and I’m sure that I will have to watch it again.

Side note: I mean have to as want to and will, not will be forced to.

I need a job that lets me wear jeans and t-shirts and vests and cool shoes and maybe a hat once in a while. Are there any jobs out there that let me do that while actually making enough money to pay the rent and have date night from time to time.

E-ve is on the lunch shift today, so I hope that everyone sitting in her section is kind and leaves respectable tips.

The sun is shining right now, and it’s warm and a little humid outside, but they are calling for heavy rain later. The thunder and lightning icon is showing up on weather reports. I’ve got my rain coat and there are umbrellas here too. Good luck to everyone else.

The Blue Jays won last night, and I’m happy to see it. We got to Seattle and managed not to lose the game. Ricky Romero continued his fantastic rookie season with a win last night against Cy Young candidate and current and future star Felix Hernandez. Even espn.com was hyping this match-up yesterday. I hope that the good play continues, I don’t have any delusions that we are going to make the play-offs or anything, but everyone loves to see their favourite team win once in a while.

One of the higher ups told me today that she is going to try and get some TFC tickets for me. She tried not to set expectations too high and said if it’s going to happen it won’t be until October, but I’ve been smiling since she left. Cross your fingers my friends.

I think that’s it for now. If you’re only here because yesterday was Monday… We’ll see you next Tuesday.

Monday Morning Musings, Post Date Night Edition

Bonjour, common ca va?

It’s Monday, and will be all day. The only good thing I can see about this Monday is that next Monday is a holiday. It will be Simcoe Day here in Ontario, otherwise known as the Civic Holiday. I hope that everyone that is going to have the day off is thankful. There’s nothing quite like a work day off to make your bed feel extra comfortable.

Date night last night was fantastic. There was food (teriyaki chicken fajitas, crab & lobster dip and Baja beef salad) lots of diet Pepsi and Iced Tea and then Up! in 3D.

It was the first 3D movie that I had ever watched in theatres, and it was well worth it. The effects and animation were terrific and even the previews had me in awe. The movie itself was well written and made with a deep story that saw heart strings pulled and tear ducts welled.

Big thanks to E-ve for coming with me. It would have been a lonely and boring date night without her.

Today is the first day that Toronto isn’t calling for rain in what seems like forever. I can only hope that they are right and that other cities are getting the same forecast. Good luck everyone on getting dry and maybe tanning a little bit before the leaves start to fall.

Was pointed out to me by Romeo that I wrote too quickly and wasn’t paying attention on the Green Lantern: First Flight piece for www.hotpinkgeek.com. I accidently pegged Tomer Re as a bad guy when he is in fact a member of the Green Lantern Corps. The error has been edited and published with the appropriate changes. I apologize for missing it.

I saw the preview for Astro Boy last night at the theatre while E-ve was getting a drink and snack, and even though it wasn’t in 3D it was amazing. The geek in me got a little excited and I started thinking about sitting back in the comfy chairs of the AMC to see that one too. I lurve Kristen Bell and she’ll be voicing a character, Nicolas Cage is in the cast too along with Donald Sutherland, Eugene Levy and Nathan Lane among others. The release date is set for October 23rd of this year.

The Roy Halladay saga continues as Philadelphia and Toronto go back and forth with deals that the other say no to. The reports keep coming out about failed agreements and players involved and the days keep counting down to JP’s deadline of tomorrow and the real deadline of the 31st.

Everything is a little upside down here at the store today. There’s a lot going on in a lot of people’s worlds and it sometimes makes me zone out and think about my own. They aren’t always pleasant thoughts, they are sometimes sad, they are sometimes happy, but they are always just memories.

I hope that everyone has a great Monday, or as close to great as it can get.

Sunday Morning Musings, Century And A Half Edition

Good morrow everyone.

The rain it just won’t stop. I was lucky enough not to get poured on this morning on the way in to work, but the drops were falling. And now that I’m here inside the store and comfortably dry it’s coming down hard. This is the time that Chicken Little would start to wonder what’s going on. The thunder has been impressive thus far and the few bolts of lightning have certainly added to the effect. I’m glad to be inside, I just hope that the public feels the same way and stays inside their homes from the day.

Happy Sunday.

I was a lucky boy yesterday as we watched Green Lantern: First Flight here at work. It was a special sneak preview as the DVD hits stores this Tuesday. Don’t ask for my sources because honestly I don’t know what they are, I only know that they are invite only.

I’m also excited that there is a new Superman/ Batman: Public Enemies animated movie launches on the 29th of September this year. I love both of those guys and I have to admit that after buying and reading even just one Superman/ Batman comic book I am thinking that I may need more.

I was YouTubing videos this morning and treated myself to some Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum before my country disapproving colleague came in. After the country was Kings of Leon and now that I’ve started the Rick Dees countdown on the streaming radio I get to hear “Use Somebody” again. There’s also a strong chance that Taylor Swift will be on the countdown somewhere. I’m a lucky boy.

There’s a baseball game again this afternoon to watch. I’m not sure if I’m excited for it, if I’ll watch it out of habit, out of boredom or because there’s nothing else to watch at work… losing 2 extra innings games in a row has really been a hit to my enthusiasm.

The littlest brother Z sent me a text last night in disbelief that the Blue Jays were able to blow an 8 run lead yesterday. He asked if I thought that Doc Halladay should be traded, my honest answer was this: In the long run yes, in the short term no. I know that Blue Jays fans may be complaining too loudly that we aren’t in the play-offs. Maybe we got spoiled in the late 80’s and early 90’s. And maybe it has something to do with the Raptors and the Maple Leafs being below the post season line in their leagues as well. Either way, maybe trading Doc to a contender in the National League and letting him have a chance at a ring and hoping to rebuild the team here in Toronto is the right thing to do. Oh, and get rid of JP Ricciardi while we’re at it. I think his time is up.

Got an offer from Poppa Z this week for some Argo tickets next weekend. That is a pretty cool offer as I’ve never been to see the double blue in action. I’ve longed to sit in the stands and let out a big long yell of Argoooooos.

Things got busy so it’s taken a long while to write this thing today what with the rain stopping and people wanting service at our store. Jerks.

Saturday Morning Musings, Roy Halladay Ovation Edition

Good day friends and foes alike.

I hope that everyone has had a good couple of days while silence has overtaken this space.

E-ve and I had some great relaxation time as well as some good times out and about.

Wednesday night was the comedy show and it was a barrel of laughs. Debra DiGiovanni was there once again and was funny as per usual.

At the end of the night there was a special guest comedian who had a line that went something like this, “So a guy walks into a bar and sees the girl of his dreams…” He kind of tailed of at that point because he was busy getting down on one knee in front of his girlfriend who was sitting at the front table. The rest, as you may have guessed, included “Will you marry me?” There was a look of shock and awe on the young lady’s face, but she said yes, there was a kiss and we believe that they went home happy.

We also got to meet Julia’s bf on Wednesday. He’s a pretty solid dude. And most importantly he makes her smile, a lot. We’re looking forward to seeing them both again at Julia’s bday Friday.

Thursday was a much needed and enjoyed day of relaxation. There was napping, baseball on TV, more napping, and more TV. Finally E-ve and I watched the Watchmen on Thursday. Thank you to Rogers On Demand for giving us the opportunity. E-ve also got to see one of the best baseball movies of all time on Thursday night as we screened Major League on the old 27 inch TV. The movie is still great even all these years later.

Side note: Big thanks go out to E-ve for a fantastic lunch and dinner of Chinese food from Ho-Lee-Chow! Xoxo

Yesterday was baseball day and I was visibly excited for most of the day. I tend to become a little kid when I know that I’m going to get to go to the ball park. We were there plenty early to walk around the stadium and get some coffee and cookie dough ice cream dots. In fact we were there very early, much earlier than we needed to be, E-ve is a saint for putting up with me in circumstances like these.

We were some of the first in the gates at just after 5:30pm and found our seats in the second row of the 200 level and got to see the Tampa Rays take batting practice. I was even lucky enough to get a bp home run ball. But instead of taking it home I was able to give it to a kid who was at the game with his dad. No matter how much I love being at the ball park and watching the games, the ball park is a place for little kids. It always has been and always will be.

The game was amazing to watch. Roy Halladay was as good last night as I have ever seen him. He sat down 15 Tampa hitters in a row after giving up 2 runs early and ended with 10 strike outs in 9 innings. In the 9th inning with 1 out and 2 strikes on Carl Crawford the crowd started to stand. Doc responded by striking out Crawford we didn’t sit. The next batter hit a hard ground ball to first base that Lyle Overbay made a play on to end the inning. The crowd responded again with a loud cheer, but still didn’t sit. The ovation continued while the team left the field, it kept going while the Rays took the field, Roy was shown on the JumboTron twice during the break and each time the crowd roared. It may have been the longest ovation that I have ever been a part of. I can’t lie, I’m a big geek and was a little choked up (or more) during the whole thing. If that was good-bye to Roy Halladay in a Blue Jays uniform, I’ll be happy to say that I was there.

Best wishes to E-ve for a late wake up time today. Also hoping that sweet dreams accompany that sleep.

The day has started here at work. Hell’s Kitchen is currently running on the computer beside us and a pre-release screening of Green Lantern: First Flight is planned for a little bit later. I’m excited about that too!

Today’s post has gotten long, because there’s a lot to catch up on… I hope that everyone has stuck around.

I hope that everyone has a great day.
