Sunday Morning Musings, Headed To The Country Edition

Good day ladies and gentlemen.

Yesterday was a big day at the keyboard. We fired off the blog of course, and there were some Twitter updates and then I tackled the “big one”. Let’s qualify and say that the big one is actually about 1,100 words or so. But I was very excited about it. I finally finished the guest list and menu for my dream dinner party. I don’t wanna give it away, because it’s the post right under here. I asked E-ve if it came off silly and she confirmed that it did, but in a sweet way. I’m happy to take it.

Jealous of E-ve today as she’s hitting Cora’s and the Blue Jays vs. Yankees game today. I love both breakfast and baseball. I’m living vicariously through the 2 of them today. I’m hoping to snag some more pictures for a new album on the MySpace for the long weekend.

Speaking of long weekend, E-ve and I get 1 day to enjoy the holiday and we are taking advantage as best we can. The GO Train is scheduled to take us east 6ish this evening and with the help of the connecting bus we’ll get close enough for Mommy Z to fire over and pick us up.

If you have YouTube available, love music and aren’t in a sappy mood with tears inevitable feel free to check out these 2 dudes from this season’s X Factor auditions in the UK. Darryl Markham and Danyl Johnson both blew the judges away and make me smile when I watch their performances. Well done gentlemen.

I apologize but I think today is going to be a day of many Twitter updates and maybe a point form MySpace blog. There are a billion tiny thoughts running through my head, and without a new piece started all the random brain waves are going to these little tidbits.

It’s also a rock and roll kind of day for me. They don’t happen all that often as I have been known to lean to the country side of things… but today it’s the devil’s music for me.

Hockey pre-season starts soon, I saw an ad on TSN for a Leafs game on September 16 on TSN2. Holy smokes eh!

I had a huge crush on E-ve yesterday and it hasn’t subsided. Here I am at work and I just keep waiting for the end of the work day and the train ride to the country.

I think that’s all for now. It’s random thoughts time in my head.

Saturday Special Edition Musings, Dream Dinner Party

Ladies and gents, I’ve been thinking about this piece for a while. I’ve been asked and have asked people this question who knows how many times, who would you invite to your dream dinner party?

I’ve decided to narrow it down. A lot of times people give the option of guests dead or alive, but I’m going with alive only. It gives the whole thing just a little more of a sense of possibility.

I want to start with a couple of quick caveats. I love eating dinner and hanging out with my close friends. But, I am not inviting them to be a part of this dinner. I hope that they will be available for many other dinners in the future. Along the same lines I am not inviting E-ve to this dinner. I love her very much and it has nothing to do with the guests (although I would be a little worried about her getting wooed by one of them) it’s just that she’s the person that I would want to run to afterwards to tell all the stories and brag and exaggerate and just be a geek.

With those two points made, let’s get started.

The guest list is a group of 5 people plus me. In alphabetical order, here they are:

1. Kristen Bell: Actress, star of one of my favourite shows ever, Veronica Mars.

2. Bill Clinton: The 42nd President of the United States, author, speaker, philanthropist, legend.

3. Dolly Parton: Country Music Legend and Actress. Often overlooked as the writer of “I will always love you” and entrepreneur extraordinaire.

4. Cabral Richards: TV personality, interviewer, funny guy, music video actor (Money Jane, released 2000), Canadian Celebrity.

5. Kevin Smith: Director, Writer, Actor, also a funny guy, family man, personal hero.

When it comes to the location I have 2 ideas in mind, but one more prominent because of what it is. I would love to be at a cottage somewhere with lots of privacy and a big deck and the wilderness just close enough to admire. But I think that I would pick my mom’s place as option number 1. It’s a big house, with a big yard, a pond, a dog, a fire pit, a pool table in the basement and all of my old stuff kicking around in boxes. The other big thing is that I feel at home there, so hosting these people wouldn’t seem like such a task. It would be like having friends over.

As far as menu goes, without being to extreme and lavish, I have some ideas. What I will not do is cater to diets, preferences or allergies. This is a dream, and I’m not interested in doing the research that it would take to find out what everyone likes for dinner.

I’m a huge fan of appetizers. I also love cheese and pickles and bacon and I’m more than okay with having them all at the same time. So here’s what I’m thinking.

We start with some finger foods, everything laid out on trays. Dill, Sweet and Sour and Butter pickles. I told you that I love pickles. Cheddar, Swiss, Brie and Havarti cheeses. Cubed and ready to enjoy with some crackers. And that leaves us with bacon. I love bacon wrapped stuff, and I think I’ve picked my 2 choices. The first is an old stand-by that my mom introduced me to years ago, Water Chestnuts. The second is the seafood on the menu, Scallops. You take those 2 ingredients, wrap them and bacon, and throw them in the oven for a few minutes while your bacon cooks and voila. So tasty you’ll be wishing for them more often.

The main course is really just a mix of things that I love to chow down on. Since we’ll be at Mommy Z’s there’s going to be a BBQ available, so we’ll use it. I can smell Steaks and Chicken grilling for the meat, and in a tin plate we get onions and mushrooms and butter which turn out to be a fantastic side dish. I also love potatoes so we’ll use the BBQ again to make some baked and then have a big bowl of mashed on the table as well. Now, I’m not a huge veggie guy, but I would like to have some sweet corn on the side. The table gets topped off with dinner rolls, gravy, BBQ sauce, honey, butter, salt and pepper.

I love me some dessert, so there’s got to be something sweet at the end of the meal. Probably downstairs by the pool table and the bar. I love some Cherry Cheesecake, and Chocolate Cake, and ice cream too. Fresh Cheesecake with some cherry topping added right before we eat, then a cake that melts in your mouth and ice cream just because it’s the way to go.

With the food taken care of the only thing left is really the conversation. I have a movie maker, a music maker, a dude who gets to meet a lot of the sports celebs I’d like to meet, an actress I kind of have a crush on and a former President of the United States. We could talk about the Middle East, celebrity legends, current media darlings, the amenities available at the White House, Dollywood, Comics, Star Wars, and all things in between.

I know that the whole thing is far fetched and about 99.9% unlikely to happen, but it was fun to plan. We’re less than 1,000 words in here and already I’ve picked the guests, menu and even some conversation topics. How could this not be fun?

Let’s break it down.

Honoured Guests
Kristen Bell
Bill Clinton
Dolly Parton
Cabral Richards
Kevin Smith

Appetizers
Assorted Platter of Pickles: Dill, Sweet and Sour, Butter.

Saturday Morning Musings, I've Got A Great E-ve Edition

Good morning party people. I hope that everyone isn’t hung over this morning, it’s a long weekend. You’ve got 3 nights left before you have to go back to work. (If you’re a 9 to 5er, which I am not)

Huge thanks to E-ve for an amazing day yesterday which started with a surprise visit and continued with a trip to the CNE for a few hours. It was fantastic. We visited the livestock in the Better Living Building and hit Curly Q’s Fries in the Food Building and played games on the mid-way and laughed and hung out and just had an old fashioned good time.

Side note: There are some pictures on E-ve’s iPhone that we are going to try to get loaded up on the MySpace. There were some pretty adorable piglets and horses and cows. I was even given a tongue bath on my forearms by a Holstein calf when I was petting her. There were a lot of city folks walking around which made me feel even more country than usual. If it had been cool enough for jeans I would have been wearing my cowboy boots.

Thank you E-ve.

The plan is to hit Mommy Z’s place for a relaxing Labour Day starting tomorrow night. We haven’t been since the graduation party at the end of June. Here’s hoping we get to fire up the BBQ, have some drinks and hang out. I’m even hoping to throw a line in the water to see if I can’t pull a couple fish out. I haven’t made it a goal yet, but it would be kinda cool if E-ve makes a few casts.

I got a message from Romeo yesterday that made me jealous as I still haven’t played the new Batman game, Arkham Asylum yet. He fired off a BBM to let me know that it’s awesome.

Side note: The PS2 has been acting up lately. I’m not impressed.

Congrats to Roy Halladay after he pitched a masterpiece last night. I will fully admit to napping through part of it but seeing the end was worth it and seeing the highlights was sufficient. It was Doc’s 2nd career complete game 1 hit shutout. The first came way back in September of 1998 in his second big league start. I remember that game against the Tigers and Bobby Higginson’s solo home run in the 9th inning. What a jerk!

The news has started spreading about the Kevin Smith tweet-a-thon that is going to take place on Monday. He has committed to doing a 24 hour Q&A session on the micro-blogging site. If you have questions, get them ready. If you love his flicks, awesome. If you plan on following him, turn off your mobile notifications because your phone will just keep buzzing all day.

This is turning into another day that I feel like I could just write about E-ve non-stop. Maybe I’ll stop in at the MySpace to brag a bit.

I think that’s my time for now friends. Have a great Saturday. Enjoy the sunshine and play nice.

Friday Morning Musings, Long Weekend Sunny Forecast Edition

Good morning all.

Happy Friday!

Quick check in before I'm off to do whatever it is I'll do on my day off.

Reminder and request for everyone to be safe this holiday long weekend. There will be lots of people out and about, we want everyone getting back to where they came from in the end.

Less than a week until payday and hopefully that will mean errors fixed and stress levels down.

Big ups to E-ve for meeting me with some lunch stuffs yesterday. I love left over fried chicken.

Watching the 1997 IIHF World Championship finals on ESPN Classic Canada. Go Canada Go!

Started writing the dream dinner party piece yesterday while I was in training. One guest spot I'm not sure about yet though.

The weather looks fantastic in the forecast for the last weekend of the CNE here in Toronto which also includes the air show. I'll probably hear the jets today from the apartment.

Enjoy the sunshine my friends.

Thursday Morning Musings, Pluto Vs. Thor Edition

Good morning folks.

It's another one the way to training edition of the muse. The street car is pretty packed right now, so I'm balancing between keeping myself standing and typing on the BB.

I've got 2 three hour sessions to sit through today in the hopes that I'll be entertained or informed of something that I wasn't before. Fingers are crossed.

Yesterday was a great blend of video games, napping, TV and music. I played some old CDs on the DVD player while I was rocking the PS2 and heard some songs I hadn't heard in a long time, but could still sing along to.

I was also able to show E-ve the YouTube video of Danyl Johnson's audition for this season's edition of X Factor in the UK. The guy is fantastic, great pipes, great stage presence and he's pretty good looking to go along with it. We talked about him looking good standing beside Leona Lewis in performance, and sounding good. We also talked about how amazing their kids would be. Who knows, anything is possible.

Bad news as the Toronto 9 lost again in Texas. I didn't watch a single play of the game and to be honest, I don't feel bad about that.

Just passing my favourite spot on King St., The Score HD studios.

I love that in Toronto people have their Vespa's parked and chained up with bicycles on the wide sections of sidewalk.

Yesterday I opined o the Twitter feed that a new web host would be welcome. And I meant it. If anyone wants to put me up I'll happily keep writing about everything I can think of, and then some. I'd like to stay all ages accessible, that's about the only thing I'm worried about.

There seem to be lots of people on both sides of the good vs. evil debate in the Disney purchase of Marvel Comics debate. Here's what I think... Marvel movies just got access to an almost unlimited budget, they never wanted to be anything more than PG-13 movies because they need kids to see them, and Disney already has Miramax and ABC and ESPN and all kinds of other companies in its "Family". I don't think this is going to change any of the movies that are upcoming in the next few years.

Side note: Some of the cross-over jokes have been funny though. Ex. Hannah Montana vs. Ironman

I hear my train a coming friends, so I'm signing off for now.

Wednesday Morning Musings, Why Am I Wearing Pants Edition

Happy Wednesday people of earth.

Big ups to E-ve, she's the rock to my roll, the country to my western, the green eggs to my ham.

It's a day off today. The sun is up but I plan on spending the day just lounging. I haven't decided if I'm gonna rock some games with the music on to accompany me or watching TV and DVDs for the duration.

Bad news day for the Blue Jays yesterday as they managed to lose both games of the double header 5-2 to the Rangers. Le sigh and a shake of the head.

A reminder to the kids who are headed back to school. If you're gonna play sports pick the right number. There is no reason to wear 00. Ever!

Also, good luck, pay attention, don't run in the halls, stay safe, work hard and have fun.

And to the Catholic school boys in Mississauga... I'm sorry about your luck on the kilt thing.

I found a USB key that I thought was gone, most exciting moment of the morning so far.

Cops stopped by last night. That was the most exciting moment of the night. And before you get all crazy and rumour fevered, it wasn't me. It seems the dude who had this apartment before me was also named Wally and they were looking for him about a bike or something.

"Classic" NHL hockey on the TV right now. Montreal Canadiens vs. Boston Bruins for the 2008 play-offs.

Last night I watched "Classic" CFL action with the Baltimore Stallions beating the Toronto Argonauts in mid-90's play-off action. The double blue were over matched, but it was pretty cool to see Pinball Clemons on the field.

Interesting factoid. One of the little brothers Z has a CFL Calgary Stampeders trading card featuring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He was a linebacker before hitting the gym and becoming the most charasmatic dude in pro wrestling (at the time).

The Twitter watch continues as we've reached day 10. @ThatKevinSmith will continue to be the subject of messages whether he likes it or not.

I think that's all for now peeps. Talk to y'all later.

Tuesday Morning Musings, Happy Friday Edition

Good morning fellow web surfers.

It’s Tuesday, so it’s my Friday. I’ll put in my 9 hours or so and then be free to watch TV and play games until the wee hours of the morning because I get to sleep in. Don’t hate me, if you get to sleep in on the weekend you’ve got one up on me.

Last night was a tired evening chez Wally. I had some Lucky Charms for dinner with a pint of chocolate milk on the side and watched the Blue Jays vs. Rangers game on SportsNet. The good guys jumped out to a huge lead, building it to 11-0 and then when I woke from an unplanned nap it was 11-7 and then the next thing I knew it was 11-10. I actually could see the game slipping away, and I was awfully close to breaking my New Year’s resolution of not throwing anything at the TV during a game this year. But I was saved by a great Vernon Wells catch in centre field and a 7 run 9th inning which lead to an eventual 18-10 win. Adam Lind and Rod “The Bod” Barajas were the heroes, each with 2 home runs while Lind upped the ante by hitting his first big league grand slam and finishing with 8 RBI on the night.

It’s double header day today. The first pitch of game 1 goes at just after 5pm eastern standard with game 2 to follow. It’s been a long time since I watched a double header, I get to see the first pitch of game 1 here at work and then I’ll have to choice to watch a lot more baseball once I get home.

Big hopes for a great day to E-ve at the restaurant. May the customers be happy, easy to please and big tippers.

I copy and pasted a huge file from a website last night before I left work… I’m starting to worry that the original saved copy with additional work has been lost. I have some paper copies somewhere, but they have to be unearthed and re-typed to add it. It’s the biggest word file I’ve ever dealt with coming in at just under 30,000 words.

In a fanboy type move yesterday I added Kevin Smith to the list of MySpace friends. I know that he’s probably not paying attention, but I’m gonna see if I can’t grap his attention somehow. If my math is right, today is day 9 of the try and get @ThatKevinSmith to respond on Twitter watch.

Happy September 1st everyone. I hope that you are enjoying whatever significance it may have to you.

I just got to hear the call for Joe Carter’s World Series Winning home run from 1993. The words “Touch ‘em all Joe, you’ll never hit a bigger home run in your life.” still give me goose bumps more often than not. It was almost 13 years ago that I jumped up and down in the living room after that blast and still I can’t get enough.

I think it’s time to wrap things up. I’ve got other things that I should be doing.

Remember, if you only stop in this one day a week, See you next Tuesday!
